Hello all!

Thanks you Sean for the link

Nice to have some new post on this thread: thumbs:

I am probably the only one owner of A 260Z 2+2 Janspeed turbo here in France

Because my car in 1980 or 1981 goes to Salisbury to be converted by Janspeed Engineering; I buy this car in 2003 here and start to learn more about this conversion and how and when the car was converted.

First, my car has the conversion plate N°2989 , and yours? When your car was converted?
I have the second generation kit with a different wastgate and with ignition advance management (with a microdynamics EMS3); SU HIF44 carby

Tell us more about your car and give us some pictures…
Here is my Email: paccaudb@aol.com

My car is in parts for body restoring for the moment but my turbo and wastgate need to be rebuilt too…

I am very interested if you could have some good information for me:

If you know were to find a new wastgate or some parts to rebuilt it.

Any information about EMS3 tune up

In addition, if you have a dyno test of your engine I am very interested also to see how this engine works

If you could have some information about my car conversion (with the conversion n°) by the original mechanics

What is your Janspeed turbo experience? Are you satisfied by the power and reliability?

Thanks you:bow:

Hi all I have tried to copy a closeup picture of a JANSPEED turbo badge, dont know if this works??? yes there were different setups for the Z range, the pricelist does not state the difference?? here they all are,

240/260Z at a price of 860 pounds, plus fitting at 190 pounds.

240K GT at 731 pounds, plus fitting also 190 pounds.

280ZX at 731 pounds, again fitting at 190 pounds.

they also did turbo for 180B - SSS - 160K - 140J.

non of the kits need compression lowered, but funny enough is the ignition box NOT included in this price? thats a Xtra cost.
just tried to upload some pics?? dont know if it worked?? cant find them inhere?? I send a mail to Benoit yesterday? didnt it come through? I have spoken to Simon - he built my car:) - and also Norm, who is still with JANSPEED, they both remembered my car there(only Danish client) I had my turbo rebuilt in Copenhagen at "Daubjerg Turbos" but they do not have parts for the ROTOMASTER wastegate, I am so lucky that mine still works, but its actually just a rubber diaphram, so maybe you can cut one yourself, as its the spring inside that control the boost.
must just state that my car is not a Z, I joined becourse I saw there were people inhere with interest in this company. but I worked for DATSUN many years ago, and remember the Z cars well :) very nice cars.

hope this helps

Yes I have well receive the picture of your Janspeed turbo badge
You could see my car and turbo set up picture in my gallery

I know that the first set up is with a 2" SU and no ignition management and original iginition

The wastegate was bigger than mine

It seems (according to the autocar road test) that the pressure regulation doesn’t work well with this wastegate

So they modify the model to another one, and ad in option ignition manadgment, my distributor so has no vacumm adavance, and EMS 3 late the igintion / pressure with to level pressure sensor

You could see in the picture 1 the first model with the big wastegate and SU2”

The picture 2 is my set up with HIF44

The picture 3 my wastegate small one

Picture 4 the pressure sensor for EMS3 that are on the intake pipe

hey, good pictures, I can see that the turbo and wastegate is different to mine,

I am not 100% shure when my car was built at JS? the ID tag plate on the turbo says 11/1985, but Simon told me it was a little later, he had thrown out his old Diary:( so he could not specify when. I still hope to get to talk to the guy who had it built ? he is a very secret man, who lives behind tall fences, and a locked gate. he spends most of his time abroad, but I know where he lives now, so maybe I will get the story from him. I will ask Simon about your car next time, was it made for a custumer in your country? or imported from UK with the conversion on? those rubbers on the pressure switches, are they marked with JANSPEED ? do you know of others with JS turbo cars? all makes of interrest? I have found that they are very rare these days.

Hi mr G yes I dont know what happened?? I did the same 5 times ? but only one came up ?
the JANSPEED folder is a 4 page introduction to turbo power, and why you should do it, I found it on Ebay last year, not much JS there (turbo) in the 2 years I have searched did I find 1 pressure gauge, the remains of a few setups for Rover, incl a engine, a carburattor/plenum and a nice Ford Capri in good condition, so its really rare stuff, I had a mail from former MG director Peter Barker, he had tried 2 different JS cars in the 80ies, but in all the car shows ower all the years did he ewer see a JS Metro turbo, Norm (JS mechanic) told me they made VERY few, 5 at the most.

My car was always in my country, the first owner buy it in a MONTPELLIER datsun dealer in 1977, I think that the third owner goes to UK to put the JS convertion between 1981 and 1983 i am not sure

the rubber on the switch are stamp with Janspeed in white letters

I didn't know other car with JS conv in France

and only one or Two in UK but without the convertion badge

yes they are very are indeed, I have seen very few on Ebay.

I still hope to speak to the guy who had my car converted. the reason they remembered my car is that its a "ONE OFF" and that they had it for so long.
but your car is almost gauranteed to be the ONLY French costumer they did a car for, so maybe Simon will remember it?? was it blue at the time of the conversion?

its nice with those rubbers with the JANSPEED letters, I dont know how much you can see on the photos?? but my car has 2 pressure switches, one set for 0.2 psi and one for 0.6 psi, the MCD box is still with the elektronic guy, who is trying to fix it, so I run the car with a A plus TURBO distributer, and the cars drives fantastic.
but I have only done 118 km so far, so I drive very carefully.

That box is supposed to retard the ignition, if your box has failed you can still get an EMS6 box made by Microdynamics. Mr.F can supply them.

yes the MS3 is not working right, thats why the engine blew up, and most of the turbo bits removed more than 20 years ago, the car drives so nice now, with the A plus TURBO distributer, so I think I will leave it, but the main thing is to have it, as its a part of the car,

No it's seems not to be a Janspeed turbo kit, with this original exhaust pipeand intake pipe
but the turbo and carburator seems to be the same than first turbo kit.

I don't see any wastgate

Have this kit...janspeed?

Hi Neighbour:thumbs: if you look at the Turbo & Wastegate, it should be Rotomaster products, as Janspeed used these, in all their conversions, as they were solo agent for this marque in UK.
Also there is a 4 digit number on all cast/produced parts, last but not least, the name JANSPEED is to be found somewhere, on the parts.
This setup use a SU carb, it might be a conversion from Turbo Technics, or Alan Allard, both British Turbo tuners in the 70/80ies.

No it isn't the same janspeed turbo kit I had....

And it seem not to be like the different turbo kit Janspeed produce for Datsun L6

There is no name Janspeed write on parts but only you could have the conversion badge (if the car was converting at Salisbury plant)
And some accessories like janspeed turbo gauge, i have one...

I think to replace my EMS3 by and an EMS5 because i want to be close to original configuration
and also besause EMS5 do Rev limiter also

the other possibility EMS6 + 280ZX ignition, probably better but to modified for the history

My EMS3 is very modified, it has 2 boost sensors, one set for 0.2 psi, and one for 0.6 psi, furthermore does it have a revlimiter built in, there is a seperat print board, for these Xtra functions.

I wrote your new Z contact, also told him I have a Xtra JANSPEED turbo gauge, incase he didnt have one? I have noticed that not all JS conversions have this. Simon told me, they had them especially made by SMITHS industries, and they were quit rare, as they were not always in stock, becourse of price or something.
