My Reply!

Funnily enough I was thinking of suggesting something along these lines for the book reviews that Steve has appealed for in the past (and maybe even magazine article / Television Show / DVD or Video reviews too?) - perhaps instead of or in addition to a piece of prose reviewing a book a poll could be conducted where anyone who has read that book can rate it against a set criteria (e.g. technical accuracy, quality of photographs and so on) and make some brief comments - in today's busy world it might just work better than hanging on for more 'proper' literary reviews. With a bit of thought this could be structured to enable anyone considering purchasing a Z-related book to compare properly. Maybe I am just a zedless bookworm though , but it certainly encourages participation.

I have also mulled over what would make the site (and I guess indirectly the club) better more generally. I honestly think the site has already got Forums and 'community' in spades, and amongst some of the members there is obviously both a depth and breadth of knowledge - often scattered across discussions. I personally think there is scope to do more outside of the Forum to try and formalise that knowledge - e.g. How to do certain tasks, problems and pitfalls with certain models and guides on consumables for each model (by consumables I mean anything that an owner may purchase or replace regularly - a previous club I was in had a wealth of this kind of knowledge). This reference information could well then attract more visitors ... A good recent example of this was the discussion on cylinder heads recently - I found myself cutting and pasting some of that into a text file while thinking 'Hmmm that might be useful information one day...'. I guess it would be better if someone could tidy up any salient results of discussions into a reference guide. Another example would be for anyone involved in a project to create a record of that project - not just by placing photographs in the gallery, but by adding some brief descriptions too - concentrating particularly on difficulties or things that went wrong (I am sure we have all been there - having wasted a couple of hours to put something together the wrong way around ... sharing what went wrong might save others the same pain) - this kind of thing would add real value for anyone thinking about joining up.

This would require some input by the club to validate and approve reference material submissions, but I am sure there are ways and means of facilitating that. Make it is as easy to submit something as 'potential' reference material as it is to post to the Forum and you would be heading in the right direction ... ;) Or even offer a button where any thread reader could propose that thread as a candidate for reference section (democracy in action :D)

I'v left off this topic - why? To see what others say. Now I look at it and this topic represents everything (almost) that I've come to dislike about this site.
People taking offence off others, don't try and tell me it's because it's the written word and people haven't met 'cos it's clear that they have. And even if they haven't, one should give someone the benefit of the doubt and at least pm them to clear a matter up before it becomes public !
After all, if you have something to say to someone, you don't wait until there are 20 other people in the room !
Next, I've siad for a long time that forum 'members' with a 0 post count or nothing since 6 months should be deleted and the 'member' be emailed to that effect - what have we lost - nothing, what have we gained - perhaps it would remind that person of our existence and they would rejoin and be more active !

There must be a social/age reason why there are more 300/350 owners active on their forums but I don't want to be part of the biggest - just the best !
The enthusiasm for a back to basics and do our own thing again at Billing shows that a lot of us are not into flashy loud things - the cars do that all for themselves ! Perhaps its the same with websites. Sure it gets heated here, thank God, I love a mass debate :) but if there were no serious topics, you wouldn't see me agin ! I love the fact I can depend upon ideas/opinions/experience and yes, official club technical help (non-biased towards commercial groundings) !

If The Z Club doesn't want to continue losing paid up members, it must somehow link this site to membership !
Perhaps that means a free 1 month trial of this site before being asked to pay up or be deleted ! A data-base would have to be kept of real names to avoid someone registering every other month !

If it wasn't for my loyalty and knowledge that it's paid up members that have kept this club going through some very hard times with NO official support and have created and maintain this site, I would let it lapse and just browse this site from time to time, asking the odd question seeking advice/parts/cars for sale !!!
Do you really expect others, new owners or ex club members who have renewed their Z interest to behave otherwise ?
This site is excellent, too good - market it !

The tone of some of these posts is why a lot of people migrated from the 300ZX site. Please, lets not go down the same road. This club has been more dedicated to the people and their cars, and a social side. Hopefully, it will remain that way.

You have resurrected a thread that was long forgotton.. last post was 7th Jan 2005.

The issues that effected people then are not necessarily their opinion now. (nearly 1 year later).

Yeh long forgotten, the site has come along a bit since then (I hope), but still has a long way to go. We have also had more practice at running it and learnt from things that have cropped up.

I think the site is about 45% of the way there now, more to come, we are slowly evolving it into what we need (I think).

I think we have a good bunch here though :)
