power steering

ps People fitting 16" rims and bigger with low-profile tyres and horrendous deep-front spoilers and carpeted trans. tunnels should also be shot.....

Nope, shooting is too good for crimes of this nature, 20 year's hard labour min.

i think there are some things that should just be don no matter what and on 10" wide wheels and super sticky tyres i think power steering is 1 of them:D but i do agree on the carpet:lol:

Basically, either one leaves a Z not far from standard or reasonably modded (note that 15-20 years ago, 220bhp from an L28 and 15" rims were huge mods) or one goes further and suddenly the standard equipment can't keep up :

electrical
braking
steering
cooling
suspension
tyre choice

Now, all of these you'll happily upgrade but you leave a manky steering rack because YOU'RE a man and it's normal to have to sweat to park the car, doing 15 point turns and have your arms turned in their sockets when you take a chicane at speed.......me ? I'm happy being a wuss - see you at the next track...or even roundabout.......or Tescos' car-park - the challenge gets harder !

100% correct
Funny how it takes a true man to admit that as the cars get more and more uprated that P/S is a good way to go when you can switch it on and off as desired

The thing that also turned my arms in their sockets was the window winders give me electric windows every day (tongue in cheek) and before anyone says wuss remember it takes a man to say it and not be a wuss to be frightened of saying things

Not sure about the window winders as with just 2 and a bit turns to open or close, they aren't like my old Austins' where it seemed like I was cranking the engine over for 20 minutes.

Mind you when age related Arther Itis sets in, I can believe you wanting electric ones. But my car is so raw, it's even got a manual ariel...........

Steve, can you reply please re DJR website plus - many thanks.

No carpets on my tunnel:D or 16 inch rims
go away and buy an MGC if you want a handful ![/quote]

OR a 260:lol:

I don't use mine for supermarkets, Z's are meant to be blasted, which means you want to feel the steering. I have family cars with PS & there's no feel too them.:driving:

I used to use my green Z every day to work and therefore shopping - if it gives me the excuse to get the Z out, I still go shopping in my yellow one.

I DO blast in mine my friend, I do feel the steering - it's progressive and I can turn it on and off. Do NOT compare a Zs PS with that of your Mondeo - you are talking outa your rrrrrs again - go away, educate yourself and come back when you know what you're talking about.

Nothing wrong with a 50's van if that what excites you.:D
Me, I'd rather have a Z that you can feel the steering on.:p Otherwise I'd have got a 280.

Have you tried a late 280ZX ? I bet ours (recently sold......:() with uprated and lowered suspension and a late rack would have p*ssed all over your rickety old 240Z !

You sound like another bloke who wants to shake his teeth lose and need bagfulls of steering lock in order to impress himself with his control of his car.

Sterling Moss once said that "a sports-car should be an invitation, not a challenge" - yours sounds like that handful !:p

Ahh a 240z 15''-16'' rims, adjustable suspension S14 gearbox, 200hp motor, power steering, 4pots up front, disks to the rear

Naa i,ll keep it as it is

You only like that 'cos you've never tried owt different - get the kama sutra out tonight and try something different before saying "I perfer......." !

LIke what do you suggest ? in electric of course

If you want elecro hydraulic pumps the obvious choice imo would be the simple Saxo or 106 pumps
Others could include late Astra, Vectra, 307 407, Polo etc which all use remote hydro pumps but those would not be as easy to work and cost more
As for other power columns you could try the Meriva, Clio, Punto or MGF
Again those apart from the mgf are bigger then the Corsa units, so imo you may as well stick with what works and also are readily available
Another option not mentioned could be to fit a electric power rack. from say a Civic Type R or C3, but again mounting those on a rwd Z cross member might be a bit tricky

Boys Boys Boys!... Lets get back on track. I was considering looking a PS options on one or both of the 240's.. I like the progressive one that Sean has.. I need to know more Sean as to whats involved.

Belive me i am NO wuss so dont even utter the word.. You want to come and drive my bloody great tractor if you want to know what no power steering really feels like..

I've driven lorrys whose PS has failed - whoah !!!

I'm not telling 'cos everyone called me a p**f ! So there !
