Nice 280Z on eBay

I'm surprised that so many of you like this.

No pictures of the bay? The arches have been squashed down at the back to fit beneath the chrome trim. The arches IMO really devalue this car as they have been fitted poorly.

Carpets are black which is original I do believe? Mine are also black, which I think is a shame as they do clash. Can't even buy a brown carpet..!

Engine bay pics are in the description section of the listing. They look good.

And really Dan, TBH, I'm with you on the arches. They don't go with the brown or the USDM trappings. Colour-coding them would be a way of making the best of a bad job given they've been fitted (short of welding the holes and repainting the car). ALL IMO (disclaimer etc).

Anyway, I can't be bothered with the predictable back and forth yadda-yadda developing again on this thread (my fault for posting it and expressing an opinion) so I'm done.

Hadn't seen those pictures, does look nice in the bay.

I'd probably say the asking price might be a bit high with the thought that removing arches and side trim may cost 2-3k to put right but doing that you would have a very nice S30 for under 20k.

I love the colour though but then I would

What just for fun?

Or is there so much disposable income up norf that "Cheshire PlainZ guys " can just go out on a leisurely Sunday drive and come back home with a £20k car:smash:

Full of divorced rich footballer's wives with plenty of disposable income and panties.

Solid Cali car with additions that some like and others don't.

Been looking for a clean rust free original 280Zed for some years now in Cali and they are not easy to find under $10K.

Big problem with Cali 280's is that they needed to go through the smog process if they were 76 and newer. Most of them at some point failed smog and were too expensive to repair or even find someone that knows how to work on them. They went to the scrapper or side yard for a dinner date with the tin worm.

Most of the 280's around Cali today are in sad condition but some nice ones still exist.

Still looking.

Has anyone viewed this car?

I do keep looking at it on my ebay 'watch list'.

Yep - a friend travelled from Germany to view and buy which was why it was listed as under int offer !

It's now listed : Datsun 280Z Rust Free California Import ... Triple weber conversion
READVERTISED DUE TO INTERNATIONAL TIMEWASTER

That's a bit hard from the seller because when my friend arrived, the carbs were out of tune (no big deal) BUT it is 'big rusty' underneath, something the seller didn't mention over the phone and omits in his advert :

"The body on this Datsun is original and possibly the best around. There are no signs of repairs and having seen the car from all angles including underneath its the best I've seen."

He can't have seen many or they were dogs !:D

Dave, yes a few years ago that would have seemed silly money but say you got it for £16k it's a nice rust-free 2.8 S30 on triples, big wheels and usable now.

I'm not going to buy it by the way.

Thanks Sean, I'll delete it off my 'watch list' now.

So many of these cars (S30s) have triples bolted on and they run badly. I would imagine they take some time and expense to get running well, so it could be a bit deal. Sellers say 'Oh it just needs a tune up' but they didn't get it sorted did they!

I've been to take a look at this car as well, and talked to the guy that's done the mods. It's been recarpeted throughout and the paint is original. The carbs are def not running right and the throttle is very sticky - need to give it a kick to get it to stop revving when under braking which is weird.

Underneath it's not perfect. Lots of thick sealer everywhere and seems to be a leak from the diff as well. Also damage on the bottom from someone jacking it up in the wrong spot as well.

The guy selling it (David) seems nice enough but the mods aren't done well at all. The bolt on fenders aren't aligned properly and don't fit well, and the bolts are sharp screws on the inside... lot of work to take them off and make good is suspect. I told him I wouldn't think more than £14k at the time but I had others to see that were more promising and without the horrible mods. He seemed quite happy with that price tho.

Off for a long drive down to Exeter to see Mr Vega on Saturday as he has a couple of solid looking cars in, and as I'm new to the scene hopefully some advice from someone a bit more knowledgable than me!!

Welcome Jon. Always good to get first hand feedback from someone who has seen these cars in person - so much is said on forums by people commenting from pictures, which isn't really very accurate!

Good luck for the trip south, I'm sure Mr Vega has a few that could tempt you ... let us know how you get on.

Chris is straight, nothing hidden so ask away.

What're you looking for - 280Z or simply any S30 2x seater runner ?

A good drivable S30 that I can do some bits on over the winters but that's fully ready for this summer really. I've loved these cars since I was a kid so a 2 seater S30 in good condition and ready to drive would be perfect. Of course I'm willing to pay a bit more for a car that's in exceptional condition if I see one, but hopefully Chris and I can sort something out tomorrow.

I finally found a very nice 280Z.

As I said before in this thread, just be patient and the right car will come along.

For me it is a 1977 280Z in original brown paint and original interior. No accident damage and no rust and is a very cool little time capsule with 109,000 original miles per the last owner.

I will start a thread with some pics in the next couple of days.
