MOT changes for LED headlights

Poorly worded. The second para could be read as meaning the conversion had to be done before Apr 1986. But when read in conjunction with the rest, the intention is clearly that pre Apr 1986 vehicles will not be failed if they have been converted. Post Apr 1986 vehicles with conversions will be failed.
 
Of course, it has to be remembered that historic vehicles are MOT exempt so don't really have that issue.

Just bear in mind that if you are out and about at night, don't shine your led lights in the eyes of Mr Plod. :dupe::smash:
 
I can see why a light unit would fail if you've just slapped an LED bulb in a original/standard lamp unit designed for incandescent bulbs, if however the complete unit is new with optics to suit the LED, it shouldn't theoretically fail an MOT legal or not. As long as they are correctly adjusted, for those that bother with an MOT, i wouldn't worry too much.
