Model cars

So, how many of you have model cars then? We're all kids at heart I'm sure, well I know I am. :D

I don't have a huge amount of models (certainly not as many as Datsun Dave ;)) but I've collected a couple over the last few years, and mainly Zeds.

Even though I can't (read shouldn't) afford a new model with being in the middle of a house purchase, I could resist buying these little beauties...

I really like models that are extremely detailed so I think they may be my new favourites, closely followed by these...(see the Newcastle United link)

Dale, I like those 510s!

When out shopping with 'her indoors' I always try to find a model shop to relieve the boredom. In that respect I think blokes remain boys.

Most of those I have for sale my Dad got for me thinking they were 240s!

I have 3 of the big Tamiya kits - two Safari Cars and one ZG. Plus other plastic kits of course.

Biggest problem we have in our house is 'her indoors' dusting them and breaking wipers/wing mirrors/aerials off!!! :smash:

I've got a plastic kit too, but its still in its box waiting to be built!

So will you ever build it or keep it in the box.

My ZG was 'new' but my Safari kits are part built so I got them 'for a song'. My plan is to use a mixture of the parts and produce a 'standard' 240Z. I need the ZG for carbs, wheels etc and the Safari Rally car for the body.

I could then build a ZG with triples and sports wheels etc from the 'left-overs', perhaps a replica of amocrace's car

That's a good question Rob. I plan to build it...some day

It has a selection of alternative parts, like two wheel choices, two rear spoiler choices, left or right dash etc, so I can build it to look like mine.

Dave, what a fantastic collection.

You certainly put your heart and soul into everything - models, 240 GTR, Suzuki etc

Dave,

That's what I call a SERIOUS obsession :) How many mini Zs do you reckon you have?

Here's a better view of the "hidden" track. First of, with the lids down :-

P4080303_zps85be9856.jpg

Then you just lift the lids up and rest them against the back wall

P4080305_zps3c4d3373.jpg

The detail in the modern models is just fantastic, I mainly have Scalextric and the Spanish models made by Fly,

Here's a pic of the paddock, magnets screwed to the worktop help them defy gravity

P4080312_zpsf1d6fda1.jpg

The R/C 240 is 10th scale, its 4WD with adjustable LSDs front and rear, plus adjustable rear toe-in in case you want to do some drifting :) The batteries last about 15 mins and it'll do about 35mph, the World Record for an electric model is 63mph, so this is only a baby !!

Interesting Rob, mind you the electric cars are faster to accelerate than the nitro car, which usually have a higher top speed. On the tight tracks these things race on, generally it's pretty close run thing between them, though they usually don't race together due to the different power curves.

However, mine's just for fun, and I enjoy building them and seeing how things have advanced since my first R/C car over 30 years ago, flat plate chassis, no suspension and if you got more than 10 mins out of the batteries you were lucky :)

Probably not, as Sams are only a UK thing and most of the models are manufactured in Japan or USA, hence you get BRE 240s and JDM models. But you can do as Rob is hoping to, and combine two kits and paint them up in Sam colours
