Historic Vehicle Taxation (VED Exemption)

DVLA, all is forgiven: I phoned them this morning and they confirmed that their database now shows my car as manufactured in 1974.
All I have to do is take my V5C to the post office in March to tax it, fill in section 7 to change the tax class to historic, and they'll send it off and all will be well.

Hooray!

I went to the post office this morning and applied for my free tax - filled in the V5C section for change of taxation class, showed them my MOT and insurance and they took the V5C to send to DVLA and gave me a tax receipt showing I'm now taxed, for free!
The system seems to work OK.

That was the surprising bit - the V5C doesn't actually mention when the car was made - apparently they recorded it in their database, but that field doesn't get printed on the V5C.
But the post office people didn't seem to mind - I imagined they have access to the database and it allowed them to issue tax at £0. :thumbs:

After seeing this thread it reminded me to do mine, so I took my V5C down to the Post Office too. I went to the counter today and said that I wanted to change the taxation class of my car. "Of course, no problem" said the woman through the big, thick, shielded window, "to disabled?"

:eek::mad:

Anyway, now sorted, and she didn't want to see any other documentation to tax it as the MOT and insurance now show on their computer.
