Grapes - Young children

Folks, if you have young children please cut grapes in half.

One of my grandsons (5 years) nearly choked on a grape last night. My lad admits he never really took the risk seriously enough but last night his son couldn't breath for a long time due to a grape getting stuck in his throat - scary.

My lad (Lee) is very well trained in First Aid (runs 5 Leisure Centres) and was able to turn him over and after considerable back slapping got his son to cough it up (and be sick) but it was frightening.

Yes thanks he's fine but it could have been so different for such a simple thing.

Can't you just buy smaller grapes ?:leaving:

My daughter (similar age) was saved from choking to death from a banana in the school canteen using the Heimlich Maneuver.

I remember reading something a couple of years ago about the dangers of whole grapes and small children, since then I've always cut them in half if there are toddlers around.

Choking is something that has always worried me since my daughter was born five years ago.
Before she was born, I had read up on recommended airway clearing for babies/kids and I always quarter grapes, hotdogs and bananas.
Planning for emergencies is something that has transferred over to my personal life from working on oil rigs.
Just like finding the location the fire escape is the first thing I do whenever I'm in a hotel room.
