I take it that adding this stuff doesn't screw the running of the car?
But is this additive really necessary? I've been running classic 70s cars for the last 11 years now, four years with my current Z, and not had any fuel system problems. Is it just another scare story?
...so that's my Friday off sorted then! But other members may find them at other stores round the country. Massive saving!
Halfords currently advertising Millers VSPe on their website for £3 a bottle down from £7.99. But you try and find a store that has any left - and they won't let you do their delivery or 'click and collect' option for some reason. But managed to track down 12 bottles at three different stores relatively close to me . . . so that's my Friday off sorted then! But other members may find them at other stores round the country. Massive saving!
Don't blame me Richie! The Macc store was not one of the ones I raided - promise! I did Stockport, Cheadle and Ashton-U-Lyne. Not prepared to go any further afield. The Macc branch is now out of stock. Well, at least shelf stock anyway...
I'm planning to raid Preston this afternoon....
Do you basically dump the whole bottle in after each fill up? Whilst at the pump preferably??
It says one 250ml bottle covers 40 litres so the answer must be yes. Not too bad at £3 a bottle but expensive at £7.99!
When I had my Capri I used to have to use a lead replacement and octane boost, and used one called Castrol Valvemaster Plus. That was about £10 a bottle but it used to treat five tankfuls (it was a 250ml bottle and you had to put 50ml in each fill - there were marks down the side of the bottle).
That didn't seem too bad - but it does not offer ethanol protection. It must be that element of it that means you need a 250ml dose of the Millers product.
The thing is I don't believe my 260Z needs lead replacement, nor do I really need the octane boost as I use Shell V-Power petrol anyway. What I probably need is just an ethanol-protecting product so will hunt about to see if I can find something that should be cheaper. Don't fancy adding £7.99 to each fill-up once my £3 bottles have all been used up!
If you don't already use one of these stabilisers, Its important thing to remember to try to leave your tank empty if you are going to let the car sit for more then 3 weeks. It would make sense if the pumps had a little button on them to blast a little ethanol stabiliser for those that need it...
