Engine on ebay

What little history this engine has is of little to no value, even if it has "Samuri" DNA, so what! Most folks that have read "how to" can put together a setup like this or better.

For goodness sake leave the Samuri hero worship where it belongs, next to the smoke and mirrors of the 1970's.

Christ you're all so dull !

This NOT Samuri worship - my feelings upon euro (and in this case British) Z heritage/history could be applied to any engine and car - Bens' for instance, one or all of the EA Safari cars, the HSCC racers, what about the early cars that raced ie Tim Rileys', the works rally cars still in the country, Kevin Bristows', Kevin Irons'........they're all looked at and appreciated individually whereas they all make up what little competition history and fame Zs outside of three other continents did.

Samuri might have the biggest and best known profile but that doesn't mean that there were just them, that they were the most important or that ANY mention of euro heritage is automatically hero worship.

Unhook the blinkers chaps..........

Sorry, I wasn’t singling you out in particular, I was referring to the continued and somewhat irritating sycophantic "Samuri" worship usually spouted by owners desperately trying to impart "tudor"worth to their "mock tudor" cars that rears its head from time to time, but seeing as I have your attention, you did seem to give a little too much credence to the engine right from the off..........

You're all treating this as a few hunks of metal bolted together - like an old company waiting to be broken up into parts, the sale of will realise more than the purchase price.

When will any Datsun history be appreciated for its' worth ? This engine has a history - it could continue having a history in the right car.........!

This engine has little or not provenance, lets not fabricate history.

Wow Moriarty, 2 posts and you really are in the thick of it!!
I have a feeling you are not letting on all you know and your back ground in such matters would be worth mentioning!!

I swear it's Sean again, even rsdave is in agreement in this thread, and Sean wants a proper discussion :p

And also whilst I agree partially with you on the 'black magic' of the Sam scene the whole of the collectable world revolves around such mystique , from painted art to treasures unearthed from times long ago.
The only reason these artefacts are of value is due to the ongoing interest from certain individuals.
Same with these motors. Wether you agree or not an engine with documented build history relating to the Samuri legacy will be more attractive.....

Agreed but we have the ability to dispel myth and half-truth yet we chose to perpetuate it.

It is an absolute that in the 1970's/80's, "Samuri" had a historical role, the question is how big and how important that role was, this has never really been established/agreed.

My only wish is to ensure that these cars are appreciated for the right reason; however this is not always the case as the cars/engines are often subject to overhype.

Forums are a mechanism to get to the truth, so often we fall short of the mark in favour of a more convenient and safe reality where no one gets upset and we all stay best pals.

Thanks for the eloquent response dave .:)

That is not the case on this forum for sure. We will argue the toss to get our point across.

Anyway who the f88ck are you???
Your patter is interesting to say the least but climb out of the shadows..................

Points taken..........and I admit I was using this example to stir up some discussion and hopefully make people think.

No history fabrication...........but let's not dismiss it all ('it' being Z stuff in Europe) - it's all we've got, 'they' (all of them) were brave to have chosen such a difficult car to tune and /or race, certainly with the useless and sometimes downright obstructive Datsun importer and valid today for such an accepted classic.

Flag waving over with.......back to cutting up cheap wrecks for the parts.............!

No, that's Mr Gaskins' role - I will always debate heavily, get upset, upset others and become best of pals with proper respect for anyone who'll discuss something like men and not sheep (no offence to sheep lovers Throttleton).

I hereby decalre that rsdave has no business agreeing with me - we have reputations to protect.....anyway, knowing that spelling, I bet it's Angie writing and it's really she who's jealous of John Holmes............

I wonder if the broadspeed capri's and escort's get so mutch of a slaggin on the ford forums? i had a broadspeed capri in the early 80's good car a lot better than a standard 1, so arnt the the samuri crew
