Engine choices?

I'd have thought that the VQ35 V6 was very smooth....?

Not as smooth as a straight 6 which is one of the smoothest configurations available due to inherent engine balance i.e the presence of both primary and secondary mechanical balance.

Skids is right,I also heard that you don't need a crank damper especially for a 3.1 as the motor smoothies its self out,or have I put it wrong or I could be talking rubbish, put me right steve

You don't need....but then you don't need for any engine capacity. But I wouldn't be without mine.;)

Started looking at neo's but the good one's seam to go for more than my 1k budget :)

Buying a complete car and selling of a load of bit to cover the engine and box looks like the way to go. I'm popping into RK Tunning this afternoon to talk engine options and remind him to keep an eye open for something suitable.

For a challenge, a 'green' project (maybe some Banzai mag sponsorship ? and low running costs, why not a Toyota 300h hybrid swap ? Not too much power but enough for an everyday road cruiser.

The Volvo would is not a bad idea for a performance engine. Toyota 300h? i'll have to do a bit of research on that.. Looks like I may end up with a selection of cars to put engines in, the way things are going.
