drag challenge

The quote was to indicate that complete novices can post up good times - and so can I, or the lack of experience could work against me ! But if I believe that, then I won't even bother to do a run your side as the cost will be prohibitive mate !

Then you can all be safe and secure in the knowledge that you're all invincible - feel better now ?

You are the fastest Z32 N/A because 1) there were only three of you and 2) Mike no longer has his car and the other guy was nearly 2 seconds off your time ! And I admire your 'wishful thinking' of 13s from your best time of 14.879 - you've nearly a second to lose :) but then again, maybe anything IS possible !

Dunno about the others, but Im certainly invincible.
And like Skiddell I will put money behind my mouth. Another £25 pledged to club funds if anyone else beats my best 2006 time in the same season.
BTW. my claims on last years best times are NOT in anyway restricted to Z Club members. I mean any Z32 in Britain. 2nd best time last year was a 14.92. run at Crail.

[/QUOTE] My first times in 2005 were around the 16sec mark.Over the season I improved to 14.87s. an improvement of just over 1.1 secs in the season. This was achieved by better driving and mods to the car.To go sub 14 will require an improvement of 0.88 secs. Based on last seasons improvements that doesnt look like "wishful thinking" to me. However just for the record I am not stating it WILL happen this season. Its just a goal to aim for.But it is IMHO achievable.

If you were confident about being invincible, it'd be £25 if anyone else beats you - period ! Surely you can stay ahead of the crowd, even if it is the whole of Britain ;-) ?

So, your car weighs 3153 lbs ? Using Skiddys' formula, for you to get 13.99 seconds, you need to have 228 hp at the rear wheels, assumming an 18% loss, that means you need 288 hp at the flywheel. You need to up your std hp by 48 hp at least and have a perfect launch and gear-changes to only just get into the 13s Pete ! But anything's possible :)

So, your car weighs 3153 lbs
That was last seasons weight.
2950lbs is this seasons target weight and around 288 bhp at the fly is what I am curently discussing with my engine builder. So 13.99s is achievable. Well honed launch technique and Mickey Thompsom ETStreet radials will complete the package.
Probably need to be at York or Elvington which appear to have a 0.3 sec advantage over Santa Pod.

So, you can pick your strip to have a possible winning time ! Losing 92 kgs from last year - gonna pilot it on remote control then :) ? 288 is gonna take a lot of money Pete - that last 40 off brake aint cheap !

Quoted from Mr F. on another thread and relevant here :

"Elvington is a "temporary" installation for the day (similar to North Weald). Santa Pod is a professional establishment with MSA / FIA credibility and acknowledged as a world class track...."

Steve at the end of the day you beating steves old time has now given rise to lots more people wanting to have a pop at your time so well done mate.Lots more Zeds turning up at great events that is what the club needs more profile so only play full banter here and lets show the people out there what you can do with a Zed 240 - 260 - 280 - 300 - 350

Exactly so.

Losing 92 kgs from last year -
Remove all air con, substitute lightweight battery. Fit modified lightwight tailgate with polycarb. Ditto doors.Remove rest of interior trim. get back on weighbridge.

Budget allocated. Remember we are upping power on a well designed QUAD cam engine not trying to squeeze power outta some 35 year old in line tractor engine.
And I have an ex F1 engine builder doing the work to whom 24valve quad cams are just childs play.

One of the most pleasing aspects of this thread Sean is seeing you recognise and learn something of the complexities of drag racing. Just make sure you bring ya motor along for a go before you take it off to rural France.

Cheers Dave, but sometimes, just sometimes I wish I hadn't ---- Its all got a little scary now:( ------- Nahhhh  has it heck.

The great thing is that we (the Z Club) are seeing a little bit of a resurgence of this, the cheapest form of entry level motorsport and slowly folks are begining to understand the subtle nuances, and thats its not all power, power and more power.

These threads, if nothing else have been educational and entertaining, roll on the start of the season where we can start doing an online league table, and continue getting definative data on UK cars.

BTW if anyone fancy's having a crack at this and is a little bit unsure, just come along and spectate for a while, have a chat, there will be plenty of advice available from some of the more seasoned veterans (Pete :D ).

Exactly - a drag-strip car is compromised as an everyday road car ! All in pursuit of losing 1/100ths of a second - mine is a road car first and if it pulls a reasonable time on a run - great !

Tractor engine ? Did you well enough for years although I begin to understand why your left-hooker continues to prop up your garage roof :)

Yeah, I learn
