Door Seal

Also been looking for both sides for my 2+2.

I have had a look at all the usual suppliers from Stateside e.g. Black Dragon Auto, The Z Store and Z Car Source and the company you have given seems a bit on the pricey side to me. This is an example from Z Car parts (Z Store)

It all comes down to shipping costs.

Let us know how you get on and who you used..

Cheers

I think MSA rubbers have upgraded their kits, but the general rule was to chuck the door seals from the kits and just fit universal seals as they were as much use as a chocolate fire guard before.

Atomman sent me a link yesterday to some universal ones he's used, so gonna try those and see how I get on.

New I had seen this discussed somewhere,

Here's what I gathered from the other site's post:

93-2002 Kia Sportage
94-2001 Acura Integra
93 Volvo 850
96 Maxima (all four doors)

Just an easy consolidation of the cars that were mentioned.

Is this posted in the wrong place, or are you implying the door rubbers from the above vehicles are a good
source of replacement Z rubbers? :D

That is indeed what he is implying!

I knew about the Sportage one and had forgotten about the Honda Integra one (will have to have a look at the door seals on my TypeR!). Didn't know about the others though (forget the Maxima as a cheap solution - its a US-only car).

Basically they can be made to fit with little effort, especially as I think they have the right angle top corner molded in.

From what I have found its been a hot topic on conversation on various sites and yes toopy that's exactly what I was suggesting.

I presume that these wouldn't fit on a 2+2 though and those are the ones that are difficult to get hold of (and the ones that I need).

I have found an Aussie website that lists them called RareSpares @ AU$60 (£32) each but would probably cost twice that to ship them and still not sure of the quality or fit. Will probably go for the universal option myself.

Farmer, from what I can gather most have to cut a section off to fit the S30 opening so they may fit the 2+2. I suppose it's a matter of getting hold of one and measuring it. Or asking someone that has.

When I did my door seals I went with about 7 metres of this stuff: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Door-...605?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20db46dfdd

If you're worried about originality then look somewhere else because it looks very different to the original seals, functionally though this stuff is awesome. It has a bulb size of 17mm which is pretty big but it is super squidgy and compresses extremely well so you won't get any leaks whatsoever and the doors will close easily (not like the cr*ppy 'Precision' seals I tried first time around).

The only bad thing is delivery takes a while because it's from Egypt.

 Excellent because i could do with some decent ones, the ones i have were supposed to be temporary
replacements as they currently just butt together where they meet at the top rear corner:unsure:

All I'm interested in is if it works. How easy does it mould round the 90 deg top corner, any chance of some pictures Morbias?

I've got no photos at hand right now but can grab a couple tomorrow if the sun bothers to come out (it was like night all day today )

The seal was in one straight piece so for the 90 degree bit I had to cut it to length, then cut a 45 degree angle on each end and jam them together in the top corner of the door opening same as toopy.

Took a few photos, not the best I'll admit

Ok, so I bought some universal as suggested by atomman, and it looks great, fits on fine and I cut it similar to how Morbias did in his images, the problem I have is that the door won't shut properly in the same way it wouldn't when I tried the genuine stuff that Datsun Dave kindly let me try last year (I'll get it back to you at Donington in May Dave cheers).

Any ideas guys, do I need to adjust the door...!! And if so what the best way..?

Er....10 minutes of photo hosting and posting wasted, just adjusted door striker plate and door shuts fine, we'll almost, not quite as flush as before but I guess that will be down to the newness of the seal perhaps - Jesus I am thick sometimes... :D
Might even have to re try those of Datsun Dave's now..

FYI, Z Car Depot on eBay has the pair for £80 plus £18 postage.

No accounting for if the doors will shut easily or not given the trend with aftermarket door seals, but hey ho.

On my car, the passenger side accepted the Precision door seal no problem. The driver side was a total pain. I ended up cutting the seal off where it runs along the sill and inserting a strip from here:

ETS2481 I think. Softer and slightly skinnier. Did the trick.

That site is as good a source as any for universal seals.
