Classic car insurance muppets

My renewal price with Adrian Flux was good, but they have refused to insure my car at the requested agreed valuation... even though supported by moggy plus current market prices etc etc.
Frustratingly, the agreed valuation is/was done after policy renewal?!
Won't be renewing with them next time...

Obviously their under writing dept disagrees with the club's valuation. It shouldn't be th case..Maybe a newbie on their side? Is your value optimistic and on high side??

Sounds very much to me that AF, in an environment where classic prices have been rising significantly, are attempting to mitigate their exposure to higher values. I'd suggest they will lose a lot of business as a result (which might be what they want - insure on their terms/shift their insured portfolio to lower value vehicles).

In comparison, Classicline altered their agreed valuation policy (I've mentioned this before) so instead of self-certifying (with a 30 quid payment) up to £20k in value, you can now do the same up to £100k. Or you can get a club valuation done and waive the 30 quid charge. This is SO much less hassle, and another reason why I've stayed with them throughout the time I've had the car. They've always been competitive pricing-wise, easy, knowledgeable and friendly to deal with over the phone, and when I did have a claim with them (when the Z's roof got knackered up all those years ago) very swift and helpful.

Just to add my two peneths worth had the same experience with AF that you had Grolls. Had to pay the cancellation charge also, which was not explained in the 30 min grilling to set up the policy in the fist place. Gone back to Footman James. Better service but slightly more expensive

Adrian Flux cost me a fortune after giving a great quote for my 300zx and my daily car (Mercedes) When I paid in full they contacted me to say they could not insure my 300zx and needed another £200 for the Merc. after they discovered part of my full NCB was trade which was not a problem with my local Insurance Brokers. With the Insurance stopped for the 300zx and the extra money for the Mercedes I went back to my local Broker but AF charged me over £150 in admin fees for about two weeks Insurance!!! Will never go near them again as I have been driving for 37 years and never claimed in my life and have never been treated so badly by an Insurance Company.

Posted up following on 300ZX site using a couple of bits of peoples posts in my question as Dan@AdrianFlux was a member over there

Have heard of three or four recently who have had this happen to them

Maybe they have a new employee in the relevant department and he is trying to make a name for himself would have thought they would contact the relevant car club whose valuations have never been queried by them in 15 odd years

Hi,

Sorry to hear about this, if you could PM me some details I would be happy to have a look into it for you?

Kind Regards

Unfortunately his membership has expired over there and on that forum only subscribed members can us their PM facility

Twice while I have had the car I have asked Peter Best to increase the agreed valuation to reflect rising prices and each time they have done so without quibbling, but with a very small rise in premium.

As I suggested, it whiffs of a systemic effort to alter their mix of what they will and will not insure. It also sounds like they are falling back on whatever market value guides are knocking around - which we all know have been out of date for years.

Looking around the web, there's tons of unhappiness with AF. See the thread on Retro Rides, or a thread linked from there to Rods n' Sods. Plenty of dissatisfied ex-customers due to this type of thing.

Just to clarify I never mentioned it was AF.:D

I think it would be helpful if the Z club contacted those considered as good insurers in an attempt to broker a deal for " Z club members" but it would have to be on the agreed value of its officer. That then helps the club and its members.

Good idea if someone in the club has the time to do it. I think the insurance company would surely be interested if they thought a whole load of Z owners would then come to them at their next renewal.

More issues with AF !!

I paid for an agreed valuation with them and as most of you know my purple zed got hit on the M74 two weeks ago.

I now discover that AF never received and approved the 10K valuation and also never told me or they just happened to lose the paperwork as I make my claim.

Complete buggers and wont me using them again.

Now I have to collate all my proof of work for the last three years, luckily I kept a build thread and i'm gonna fight my case.

I did mention to Oliver Saunt at Classicline that I would encourage trade from the Z Club because of my experiences.

All I can do is recommend them.

Unbelievable. Give 'em hell. And good luck.

I have just spoken to someone I know in the industry and they have confirmed they would be interested in helping "club members" be it Z club or other with giving a better service and better rates. This I will pass on to Steve who I understand will discuss it with the Club Officials shortly.

If you want I can get a message to a guy from Adrian Flux who posts on their behalf on the 300 forum and ask him a couple of question or could ask him if he would like to answer questions on here or if anyone pmed me the question I could message him in private for either of you

i would greatly appreciate it if you could Steve as i have no choice at the moment but to change insurers because im really not willing to drive the car at all whilst "covered" by Adrian flux.
after sending them the valuation moggy did for me they are unwilling to raise the valuation to even half what its been valued at.
i do feel they are really pushing their luck and my patience.
at the very least i would like to know what the market value of a z should be as that is what i have been told its been insured for.
last time i looked at the market i doubt the market value is what they really want to give me.
just like someone else has already mentioned if you cancel with them your out of pocket and they drag out the valuation procedure so you exceed the cooling off period.
such a shame because they have been excellent in insuring my scirocco for the last three years.

I suspect they will be loosing business at this rate. I know of others who are not happy. perhaps its a ploy to make people leave as they are not earning enough. if it is, its working.

Jimbo, having read your posts you need to change insurers. Adrian Flux's attitude is to assume you are a crook. If your uncle had given you the car for nothing would they have valued it at £000 ?

Classicline are ok.

thanks rob i will diffinately give classicline a call next week.

the worst thing about it is i could of lied about how much i paid for it and said millions but look where honesty gets you.
i dont mind paying more as long as i get the service i require but it seems the customer requirements are no longer important to big businesses.
