This has to be one of my all time favorites

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-DATSUN-240Z-RED-/201657644195?hash=item2ef3bb74a3:g:is4AAOSwFV9XxtEz

of bad adds. The car looks a bit suspect and he says virtually nothing about the car. But at least it comes with a 260z dash although that's probably knackered as he's only taken a picture of the underside of half of it!!!

The car is good - it's one Chris Vega sold a month or two back. Euro spec LHD car that got redirected to the States to its first owner. Discussed in previous threads. The guy is flipping it fast though (apparently he tends to do this). The RHD package isn't much of a selling point though. Mismatched and that bulkhead plate is knackered. And I personally wouldn't see that car as a RHD candidate anyway given its condition and backstory.

I saw the ad for the red LHD one. The whole ad wording is centred on the fact the new owner might want to change it to RHD ... very strange.

The one with the TVR engine is ... I don't know. The thing sits higher than mine (USA stock 240) ... and defo has the 4x4 look! I've no doubt it's a masterpiece of engineering shoehorning some old Buick v8 into the Z engine bay but it just looks and sounds wrong. I had a 4.0 Chimaera 15 years ago and it was a fantastic car to own and drive and full of its own quirks without hearing the same noise in a Z.

Hearing this soundtrack though and seeing what I saw, the two just don't marry up somehow in my mind. Jury's out for me big time. No way would I ever buy it but you gotta applaud someone wanting to make it happen. But just buy one or the other (or both, the TVR's are cheap enough now) ...

Didn't this belong to a member here? Don't think there are many TVR engined s30's:unsure:

Not sure if it's the same one, but Wyn on here built one long ago, remember? It wore the private reg now on his RB260Z, WYN296M. Dark blue and standard on the outside, with slot mags.

The one on eBay looks like it's on stilts. That American bubble arch body kit will alienate a lot of potential buyers too, given the drift towards standard or JDM looks.

I think it's the same one!! Reason--a mate uuup norf told me that a garage local to him had taken in a blue 240z with a V8 and the new owner was putting in non jdm fender flares. More like escort bubble flares...too much of a coincidence I say.

Where is Wyn when you need him? :)

There were a few things with the red car that rang alarm bells. Take a look at the rear slam panel and surrounding area. Also look at all the parts that have been overpainted. The outside looks very sharp but I get worried when I see the other bits.

Did you notice the Z Club window sticker - he (Scott, 'escortsn' ) is a member on here.

I think one of the key things that worked about that car as originally done by Wyn was its sleeper hybrid nature. It's too garish now.

They have also tried to copy this well known car in the US, but it's not quite right, mainly due to wheels and stance:

If it is Wyn's old ZVR, they've changed a hell of a lot. Except the gear knob. :D

ZVR

Agree on the stance though, it needs dropping.

It is a nice car - I saw it up close before you bought it from Chris. I only wondered out loud about the value of selling it with a RHD package that is somewhat mismatched (if you are going to do it, do it right with a 240z dash, regardless of condition). I think the car is nice enough to leave LHD, especially with its backstory - a Euro car redirected to the US by 'family connections' to avoid having to wait for a US car due to demand. It wouldn't take much to improve a few other details here and there to get to a really nice outcome.

But whatever.

Why would you want to put a 260 dash into a 1970 240 ?
