Banshee's Road to Roadworthiness

So I started here:

You may need to understand a little bit about the wiring diagram that closely matches your vehicle (guessing 240z, but sometimes the USA isn't the same as a UK)

Once you've understood the earthing arrangement and the low/hi wires, throw a volt-meter to confirm it hasn't been modified in anyway by any previous owners.

You can buy relay kits if you're not confident on building your own of course, and as always, the Zclub loves to help 👍

Who does the kits Martin?

Pretty sure the z store:

But you look at that price plus p+p and then look how much it costs to build your own 🙃

I might look into building a few myself for members seeing as there's a need for it, I have the tools, knowledge and time whilst away during the week.

Of course I wouldn't charge what the zstore charges 😂

Thanks for sharing, was just glancing over that one this morning. I have a wiring diagram (USA 240Z). The wiring colors all matched up nearest the headlights but yeah likely modified somewhere given it had 1 ground and 2 powers instead 1 power and 2 grounds.

I think it has potentially been modified for H4 bulbs but not modified to have a relay. I will break out the multimeter and do some more digging.

Worth noting everything works just fine now (With the new headlight switch) I just want a long-term robust solution with the proper relays.

I would buy a set if I knew for sure it would actually work with my car 😂

I'd be down for one.................

Ah yeah I remember seeing these a couple of years back. The price and the fact it says only for 240z is why I didn't go for one 😂

Where do you guys buy all your electrical stuff from here? (Relays, wiring, etc.) Wondering if anyone has a recommended UK-based resource.

Also I did find a spliced-in relay… but with only 3 wires going to it!! Not sure if it was for the old spotlights or something. Super janky, will investigate where its wires go and get rid of it.

Inspection is booked for this Wednesday! From talking to the guy on the phone it sounds like they’re really just after verifying VIN numbers. Even if they choose to report the mods or anything I still easily have 8 points to avoid Q-Plates/IVA.

Wish me luck!

Ah shoot I didn’t realize that was this Saturday! Unfortunately I’ve already got commitments this weekend.

Need to map out all the car events this summer, right now the only one I’m for sure attending is Goodwood Revival (Which if my Z isn’t on the road by then then something has gone very wrong!)

I've used AES and Car Builder myself in the past, and looked at Vehicle Wiring Products - all are good sources. Ones that I will probably be hitting up sooner or later as I think my project 240Z might end up with completely rebuilt looms...

Someone on here did a run of headlight relay kits a while back - I've got one in my parts pile!

Alrighty got some good news today! Just finished up the inspection, it was very straightforward and the guy was very nice (I could tell he was a classic car enthusiast too!).

I showed him the VIN tag in the door jamb and on the dash as well as the stamping on the bulkhead and he took pictures of all of it. Took pictures of the engine number as well and then some pictures of the car in general. He asked some general questions about how long I've owned it and when I brought it to the UK etc. but it was all very relaxed and conversational.

He said I should hear back in 10-14 working days and usually they just send the V5.

So still a bit more waiting but I'm just about in the clear now!
