Hi - Ive seen a few 240/260z's with stickers on the bonnets for front number plates - is this street legal or strictly for show??

Cheers,
Ryan

AFAIK

If your "sticky" number plate is of the same dimensions as a "normal" plate then it should be legal provided it can be read from a horizontal angle.

And not all E-types have sticky plates, some have none at all. :)

As per Gios link

Are stick-on number plates legal?

No, number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements.

Good information.

To be honest I see lots of illegal number plates due to letter style, spacing, size etc The police have more important things to concern themselves over I think.

I have an MOT due so I'll be interested to see how I go on with mine.

I've not had any problems yet but I still have the original if I need to revert.

I have a few private registrations and have always been a bit liberal with the spacing and fonts on my plates. Never been pulled over for it so you are probably right, the police must have better things to do ;)

Well how about the black and white/silver variety? I know your car has to be produced before 01.01.73 to use them, but has anyone used these after that date without attracting unwanted attention?

I've often considered getting some (for show purposes only of course;) ) as they really do look great.

I'll be fitting them legal or not, personally don't think it's any harm seeing as I'm only about 4 months too young, and I doubt the police will pay any attention :)

They're perfectly legible and speed cameras can see them, so I don't see the harm neither. I'm about 14 months out so I reckon it's worth the risk.

I've seen a car on a 52 plate with Black and Crome plates, It down right pisses me off to see it.

Yeh there's a stupid land rover round here on massive wheels with the same, and a mid 90s 3 series. Just looks wrong and I find it annoying as well. But they don't appear to get pulled so a 1973 car (if life was fair) will be fine :)

You used to be able to get them from Halfords at one time but havn't seen any for a few years now. A new law came out supposedly making it harder to get #plates made up so maybe that is why.
