Hmmm. Interesting.

Although it has an accursed sunroof fitted. :( :smash:

Without that b@stard thing, it would be ideal...

I notice I'm mentioned in the 'review' and the review is a mixture of different ones.

It's amazing really the 'sun roof' issue. A new or excellent steel roof panel is worth quite a lot really because of the 'value add' aspect. If a £100 S/H roof came with this car it would probably fetch at least £500 more.

Find me a roof for £100 Rob!

Anyway, looks to be a great buy if it goes for around that price range. Now have I got room for another?

Depends on what you want. The fibreglass arches aren't exactly pretty and there are a few signs of rust. Plus, check the twisted rear bumper. Its had a bump up the ****. Could just be the bumper - or not. I reckon it will be a lot scruffier in real life than the photos suggest. You could still end up spending a lot sorting it out.

Cars like the one you posted at the top are a blank slate. For some of us, that is exactly what we want - something that is going to get a bare metal rebuild to taste. Something like the 10K car is more a rolling project for improvement on a running basis, maybe for someone who wants to drive the car ASAP, rather than in a year or two's time.

I think it's had a hit in the front too and just look at the drivers' floor.

It's raw material and already in Europe and the seller hides nothing.....but they've imported better.

This is just more proof that good cars in the USA have gone up in price.....and ulimately, we will see the ripple effect here.

I dont see how you can compare the cars. One is a messed with rusty car that needs welding and the other looks to be a rust free original honest car at half the price.

Agree - the green car is an attractive project (apart from sunroof) the orange one has lots of poor areas and that's just from photos.

Just had a re-think and the green car is pretty bad. A real money pit if ever I saw one. You'd have to be a fool to bid on it so I advise you all to stay away.

:)

Now what colour should it be?

Really, is a 'sunroof' so much of a problem? My car doesn't have one but back in the 70's they were so very desirable. Back then (Rob, you will recall) endless 'sunroof' fitting specialists and a desire to open cars up a little. They are as correct IMO as any other period change such as alloys, wing mirrors and cassette players? C'mon chaps, get real. Having seen some of the atrocities imposed by members of this forum on their cars I can't think that something so trivial causes such an issue:confused:

Yes I recall the period well. I remember one sunroof fitter showing me the various sizes of roof and when he got to the big one he said 'these are the get you out of the **** size' i.e. if you mess one up you can go bigger!

I wouldn't let a sunroof put me off a car but I would value it at less than a standard roof.

Glass sunroofs* (IMHO) are NOT period on a '70s classic car - they are very much an '80s and even '90s after-market trinket and I wouldn't hesitate to remove one.

*they're not even that as who removes them frequently to let in the 'sun' ?

That said, if a Z came along with a well-fitting Webasto, chromed (s-steel ?) edged folding-back sun-roof, I wouldn't say no.

This is a Dutch 260Z currently up for sale - split-sun-roof - even better...........not !

If you want a targa roof which imho is the best compromise between coupé and rag-top, buy a ZX.

My mate worked at a 'Rootes' Main Dealer.

They were told NEVER to fit a sunroof to a Hillman Avenger because when they have a suspended tow the roof kinks!

Surprising comment about triviality, given your open disdain for other often less invasive variations from standard, never mind your demonstrated attitude towards more significant modifications ("atrocities" - really???).

As Rob notes, a good car with a sunroof is a good car. But still worth less than one without...
