Alternator upgrade

Evening men, Has anybody else fitted the alternator upgrade sold for the 240 to their 260 ?, I've just fitted mine and am wondering if their is any other mods needed to the wiring. Apart from just fitting the plastic plug with the diode in it where the standard regulator would normally be.

I've just been refitting my newly flocked dash back in the car today and am having a few minor issues with the wiring, For some strange reason the battery light isn't lighting up when I turn on the ignition, Hence the above question & the blue main beam light isn't coming on when the main beam is operated (bulb is OK).

Another quick question, Has anybody else fitted their heated front screen yet ?, I've got hold of a new switch and timed relay from a land rover, I'm just looking for any helpful advice regarding the whole wiring up process.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this helps but a 240 doesn't have a battery/ign light. You know if the ignition is on by the handbrake light!

That's a bit spooky, just finished the wiring on mine tonight and everything is working apart from the main beam and ign/brake light. How odd!

Ok this job is not as quite as straight forward as you would think the original Hitachi alternator had early type resistors in the regulator, also you may find the the Rev counter may not work or will be completly out of sequence to the engine revs ! if you have removed the balist resistor and wired the rev counter off the W terminal depending which alternator you are fitting ie Hitachi late 260 onto early 240 and the Zeds rev counters have to be altered, we have put an upgrade kit together as the need for more electonic gagets increase, we offer 110amp upgrade which gives plenty of juice for a zed which is from a yanmar Marine engine, best thing is to call or email the numbers from your alternator and we will send you a wiring diagram, picture of the alternator is in my albums hope this helps or call 01243 379865 in the morning email superstartsales@aol.com, probably the best switch for your heated window would be the early sierra XR4 timer and relay ! still available

LoL I should of read the whole tread before replying before, I'll give you a call in the morning Martin because I've changed everything on mine. I have a big MSD coil plus an MSD type A twin spark ignition box and a 280 dizzy so I might need some advice ;).

The coil and MSD ignition box are probably over kill but I had them sitting in the garage doing nothing, I bought them for the Pulsar but never got around to fitting them so why not chuck them on the old Datsun ;).

Who likes the dash ?, And who doesn't lol, Be honest I can take the bad comments as well .

Thanks Dave :D.

I have an acquaintance from my days as a moderator of the GTIR owners club, He is a fellow pulsar owner who has started his own business flocking just about anything you can think of lol, He even flocked a set of wheels for some strange EVO owner :rofl:.

He wasn't very impressed when my dash turned up because I told him it only had 2 cracks in it :p, He found 19 lol.

He only charged me £150 all in including all the crack repairs plus the steering wheels cowl and glove box lid.

You can contact him here if anybody is thinkig about getting anything flocked (naduk.co.uk or atouchofflock.com)

Hey Rob just going through your photos ! the P terminal is for rev counter, and looking at your earth terminal is looking a bit dodgy I would fit a new earth terminal before you go any further and then run a meter on your existing loom, I believe the black box was an external reg ? but will check when i get home to night will give you a ring cheers Martin
