air box fitting tips

Ooooh! Carbon fiber box... I want one! What carbs are those? I see the
Cannon intake... You are running thinner, plastic isolators... Looks like a tight squeeze. I am interested in seeing your pics.

Thanks,

Garrett

My isolators are quite a bit thicker it seems. I think there is not enough room as things stand. I am beginning to wonder how much room you need to remove the air box cover as well... Take a look at these pics.

i have checked mine and my cannon inlet manifold is 140mm,dellorto carbs 120mm and misab plates 5mm.
looking at yours with the thicker insulator plates and the bleed nipples on the brake master ,they will be an issue and i do not think you will get the airbox to fit unless you use a shorter inlet manifold and use thinner insulator plates.
i have a shorter inlet manifold 120mm which i will be using at a later date so they are available as Sly1 has one aswell on their engine.

Thanks for taking the measurements. I measure my Mikunis at 120mm, my isolators at 19mm, and my manifold at 136mm. Adding it all up, I think my combo ends up being about 10mm longer than what you have.

Of course, I have many hours of porting work in the manifold... and these isolators supposedly do a much better job keeping the carbs from vibrating and functioning improperly...

But, the box won't fit as is. Specifically, if it were already assembled when put in the car, I think it would clear... But, you can't put it on the car already assembled.

I could put plugs in where the bleed screws are and just bleed the system elsewhere. They are more of a convenience than a necessity. Figuring I could pick up half their length, that gives me 8mm, with 8mm left until interference with the brake master cylinder reservoirs.

It looks like Sylv has more than 10mm air gap to his brake master cylinder. How much room do you measure from the air box to your master cylinder? And how much do you have to pull the box cover out before you can lift it free of the back plate?

Finally, the box looks like it tapers from front to back. I measure 113 mm from the face of the front carburetor to the shock tower face. If that isn't enough (also allowing for the removal of the cover), I'll have to give up on creative thinking and just change out the manifold or the isolators. Sorry to drag this topic along so long.

Garrett,
Another point to be aware of/investigate is the dia. of your air trumpets...these MAY be to too large and foul the inside of the airbox (the rear most one). There is a picture of Sylv with the air trumpets he used. This is my concern for my Mikuni air trumpets fitting this design of air-box..so I went different air-box (yet to be fitted) rather than change the air trumpets..

Good luck

Garrett,
The 50mm you quoted is the air trumpet height, I mean the "bell house opening" e.g where the air enters, which for the Mikuni is 80mm dia. that I have (and looks like you do). May touch the inner side wall of the air-box on the rear most carb? More than likely it will be fine, just wanting to make sure all avenues are looked at before handing over your money. For me, I would want plenty of room in there.

I think I want to buy one, but I need to total it up. Howv much? Do I have to pay VAT if it is coming to the US?

pmac, I sent you a pm, but didn't get a reply.

Mr F?

Last call for second hand carbon fiber one. Anyone want to sell theirs?

No VAT if shipping to America, but you will be liable for any import duty and local taxes when it arrives.
I have one of ours available from stock for immediate shipment.

i didnt reply straight away cos someone else was negotiating to buy it.
Sale is now confirmed so like Mr F I only have "new" and perfect ones to sell.
Im happier if Mr F does the new sale to you.. We both have the same selling price , and shipping will be the same too.
