Age related plates

How come there is so much stress and aggro, especially on imported Datsuns to determine and have the DVLA agree to a build-date in order to have an age-related plate when......

....this kit-car has a 'C' reg plate ?

because it'll have a number of components from the donor car, which would have had a 'c' registration. the original car gets scrapped, if the donor has enough parts it'll carry that cars YOM registration, however be declared built in 1997 etc.

It could just be a "cherished" plate, I don't think it even needs to have any '65 donor parts.

yes. if you're doing a decent recreation, its the way to do it.

"if the donor has enough parts it'll carry that cars YOM registration"

What is the % of donor parts required or are they to be of major components like chassis, engine etc ?

It can just have a C reg ('65) plate on it - nothing special. A C reg plate would look better than a 1997 (or 1992) plate anyway.

I sold my C reg Mustang (FAV 193C) to a guy who had a Ford GT40 roadster and wanted to put a) a C reg plate on and b) wanted an FAV plate (Ford Advanced Vehicles) ... the Mustang no doubt ended up with any old C reg plate on it.

Irrespective of the plate I reckon it's a good time to sell a GT40 replica - Le Mans 66 film and all the hype that goes with it.
