Hey guys, thought I'd stick up a thread for my Z31 that I picked up last Friday

Excuse the ****** pics, they are from the for sale ad.

1988 Nissan 300ZX (Z31) 2+2 Targa Turbo
3.0 V6 Turbo (VG30ET)
5 Spd Manual
LSD Rear Diff (this isn't 100%, anyone let me know?)

Full Leather Interior
Leccy Adjustable Lumbar Support
Leccy Windows
Leccy Mirrors
Air Con
Cruise Control
Power Steering

Really liking it so far.

It's got a little misfire and a blow from the exhaust. Checked out the plugs, and they are cheap nasties, so got a set of the proper NGK's for it here (will get them fitted this weekend), hopefully that along with a decent injector cleaner put through the tank will sort it the misfire.

I got some quick snaps during the week when I got home from work.

The car is badly needing a good wash, but just not had time since I got it.

Anyhoo, the pics

And some better pics of the interior.

The drivers seat has a few deep scratches in the leather, but not too bad considering it's 24 years old! And like the outside, badly needing a good clean.

And the dash:

The gauges in the centre of the dash are boost gauge, oil pressure & oil temp, all of which work :D

Done a plug change on it yesterday, put in the proper NGK plugs, and it's made a massive difference.

But there is still a little misfire there, seems like it's fuel related, so I'll need to look into that.

Cool Zed.

I'd be surprised if it has an LSD as Euro spec Z31s were never equipped with them from factory.

Are you getting a rough idle with the miss fire? ... could be the air flow metre.

Good to know about the LSD, never knew the Euro ones never came with them.

The idle is good, sits steady.

I'm gonna take it round to a mates garage and get it smoke tested to see if there's any problems with perished pipes etc

Well, when it wears thin and you see the synthetic lining underneath I guess you'll know. I believe that someone took Nissan to court (and won) for selling false merchandise calling it leather.

Someone could find the link !

Like I said, not sure if it is and TBH not really fussed!

It doesn't have an LSD and its now got a full 3" stainless turbo back system.

Waiting on my new Taylor ignition leads then I'll also get the new dizzy cap & rotor arm fitted.

All the Z31s i have seen with "leather " are exactly like this white ones- I don't have experience of Z31 leather wear and tear so can't comment beyond that.:)
I know some car makers do use leather seat facings -but rarely use the term.

Hi,
Nice looking example!
I remember seeing that car for sale and was quite tempted!

If you haven't changed the plug leads it will be worthwhile doing so, as they tend to perish over time with the heat from the engine.

The Z31 engine does tend to have a rough sounding idle as the cylinder firing order makes it sound like it's misfiring.

With regard to the leather seats you may find that they are made of bonded hide which is a mashed up, reconstituted leather which has been bonded onto a synthetic backing.

I used to sell domestic leather armchairs and a lot of the cheaper leather ones were covered in this bonded leather, which can still legally be described as leather!

I would imagine that a lot of mass market car interiors use this material rather than real cow hides!
