More 2+2 pics...http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C115953/

I quite like the yellow one, although I'm not sure about the rather "American" bodykit, if you know what I mean...
Keep the arch flares and tone down the look without the skirts and the front and rear airdams/valances and it would be pretty nice. Slightly narrower rear wheels wouldn't hurt the looks either. They are wide!

Wonder how much they want for it? I suspect a price on the "optimistic side"?

Engine bay pic wouldn't hurt either...

How'd I manage to miss that at Billing?...

What engine upgrades etc. does it have to warrant the "stage 2" that the dealer mentions in their ad title?

Does the cat on the passenger seat of the yellow one come with it?
Both very nice

You know some wierd cats - that's a dog !

It's..............YELLOW !

Not bad but it's too heavy with all that kit and the interior is a bit....wannabe with wood ventilation panel and that gear lever - bit "left-over '80s" !

Hi, newb here and looking for a 260 2+2.

The red one looks just the kinda thing I am looking for, fairly original (newb OK so be kind). Checked the website and its still on there for sale so am thinking of going for a look on Saturday.
What should I be looking for in particular and how realistic is this price, £7k looks quite high but am cash buyer with no PX so happy to haggle.

Your advice would be appreciated, cheers.

JK.

edited to say, just rung, still available, going on saturday morning!!

Looks a good car from the photo. See my advice on the other thread.

This car is non-standard at the front which is a shame (spoiler, American indicators, overiders) so have a good look for accident damage. Also it has black inner wings why?

It is expensive for a 2+2.

Have a look and drive - if you like it don't get carried away, get a second opinion which may also help you haggle.

for that sort of money i would pay to have RAC or the AA or similar to check the car over before buying unless you know what you are looking at.it might be a good car but it is better to be safe than sorry as they are expensive to repair.

Thanks for the pointers Rob.

What do you mean by overiders?

Black inner wings too, is that not a standard finish then?? I guess you are talking about the wheel arches are you...sorry for all the questions I just want to be armed with as much knowledge as poss...

I have done an experien on the car and it was originally yellow, had a paint/colour change in 1991. The garage reckon they have all the history substantiating the mileage so I will see on saturday.

what do you guys see as a sensible price for this sort of car, is 5 and a half K more its money??

Cheers again,

JK

2 years ago they left in dog in the car overnight at the Travel lodge at Billing and got a nice present when they got up !!!!!.

This is a picture of a standard 2+2 (apart from the sunroof). Look at the front end, overriders are the vertical additions to the bumper.

Datsun 240Z Parts, Exterior, Page One

Notice also the indicators attached to the bumper on the standard car.

Inner wings are the panels that come between the front wheel and the engine, i.e. each side of the engine-bay. Now you've said the car was yellow it confirms my suspicion of a colour change. The inner wings would normally be the body colour.

So with these things in mind (and with respect your limited knowledge) you need to be very careful. People don't normally paint these cars to change the colour it's usually following major bodywork to repair rust damage.

These cars can be very rusty and expensive to repair. Have a good search on this website - the word rust should get a few replies!

It may be a nice, well restored car but it could also be a car that hides a lot of problems (chassis, floors etc). With these cars mileage is not as important as body condition.

In my view to be worth £5.5k it would have to be REALLY good and require no work. Another thing to look for is flatspots in the carburation (hesitation and misfire). If it has this don't think it's easily fixed (or it would have been done).

I don't want to put you off a 2602+2 or any Z but be careful how you spend your money.

Rob,

Your help is appreciated!!

Having scoured the net for the last few months, the prices tend to be all around this price from garages, I know they have to make a profit but there is a limit, so your valuation help is welcomed too.

I will have a proper look and make sure I don't do anything rash..I am happy to pay the right money for the right car, but dont want to end up with a nail!

Now filled with slight dread at what I might find!!!!

Thanks,

JK

I agree - dropping the price won't save you from horrendous restoration costs - if it's a basket case underneath, walk away, even if offered it for £3k. Find another, better one somewhere else.
