There are Chancers everywhere, Mike.....aren't there ?

A glass Sunroof, dodgy Panel gaps ( look at the Driver's Door shutlines ) and the wrong front Valence, he has to be joking....

Just try to compare that 'Z' with the one that DJ built ( the Royal Blue one ) - there's just no comparison.

I know everyone wants the cars to go up in value and be appreciated, but that really is optomistic to say the least :D and if you want strong money at least hoover the carpets.....

But has got a samuri spec engine............sorry, just read the add again. Period wheels though.....well nearly. The shocks and exhaust must have pushed the price up a bit though? No?

So what do do people think this car is actually worth then? Obviously tough to say without seeing it in the flesh, but even half the asking would seem a touch steep to me? Green one on eBay seems pretty damn optimistic too - £16k and it's not finished?

Yep loads missing, wiper arms and I bet motor, mirrors, grill, boot strut, bumpers, seats & interior and it has a sunroof and it has the wrong tailgate for year.
I would think at least another £5000 to complete these little parts really add up.

If this sells I would be surprised, if it does all good, prices are really on the rise.

I would say that the zeds are undervalued and unappreciated by the vast majority of the classic car market. I think that will change in time when old predudices finally die out.

And judging by the new pictures in the gallery: damage and rust on bonnet, lots of manky hoses and just about everything in the engine bay corroded. I mean, no offence to the owner or anything, but £16k is ridiculous. If I were looking for one right now it'd need to be more like half that, based on what else I've seen sold recently.

Personally I don't think these kind of prices are a good thing at all. Surely your car being worth lots of money is only any good to you if you consider it as an investment, plan to sell it and don't want to buy another one? Otherwise all it means is more expensive insurance, parts prices go up, and it represents greater financial risk and more to worry about. But maybe that's just me, because mine isn't one of the minters and I'd like to still be able to afford a really good one in the next couple of years.

I completely agree that they are definitely undervalued and under-appreciated. I just see that as a good thing for anyone wanting to own and run one and I'd rather it stayed that way so I can still afford to!

Hi Tim
I take your point and your logic is impeccable.
I am doing a rebuild on mine but it is not going to be for sale hopefully in my life time, kindda want to leave it to my son to enjoy one day.
It also makes me feel better when I am spending thousands on my own car!
It may also stop some cars which could be saved from being scrapped!?
It just seems that the Zeds get treated a bit like sh*t by certain parts of the classic car scene.

I guess there are pros and cons on both sides. Nice to know your treasured Zed is a sought after and valuable car, but then that makes you less and less keen on actually using it. If Zeds were suddenly worth hundreds of thousands of pounds I wonder if people would get out and drive them more, or lock them away under covers and worry endlessly about scratching the paint...

I guess it might save some from getting scrapped. But then the offshoot is these clowns advertising absolute basket cases, calling them projects and proudly exclaiming they 'know what these are worth when done!' whilst attaching an absurd price tag because they've seen a couple of perfectly restored cars up for ~£25k and thus concluded the non-running pile of iron oxide that's been sat on the drive for the last 10-years is suddenly and magically worth £5k.

I agree they don't seem to get nearly the respect they deserve from what I would call the traditional classic car scene. Same with Japanese cars generally. There seems to be a lot of love for them from other corners of the retro / vintage car scene though, and plenty of people who could and would give them a new lease of life if they weren't priced out of the market.

Sought after and valuable?
Oh you jest!
Its a 2+2 so I think not!
In hindsight I paid well over the odds for it 21/2 years ago.
Its was pretty original though.
It even came with its own rusty chassis!
But I love the old girl!!

Doesn't matter if my Z is worth £10,000 or £30,000 I'd still drive it just the same as thats what I bought it for. I'm not home all that much but when I am I drive my Z every day its dry.

I think it would be kind of nice if in a few year my Z could be worth more, having said that I am glad they are not so expsive at the moment as otherwise I couldn't have bought one.

Tim - you are absolutely correct on all counts - these sort of figures are just some Fools dreaming, and don't in any way raise the realistic Market Prices and/or stimulate interest in the Marque at all.
If anything, on the contrary.
The early Z's are still relatively affordable and as we know, are still great value for money in the Classic Car world.
