Waiting for the usual comments to kick in from the 240 elitist camp!

Can be applied to any Datsun model....the wall-to-wall carpeting doesn't do it for me and noting that under the bonnet isn't painted, one wonders what sum WAS invested in the outside paintwork.

Otherwise, nice and rare 2 seater S30.

Nice car. Dodgy steering wheel, dodgy red paint on the drums, dodgy red interior bits, missing door cards, missing headlining.
So you'd need to spend maybe £500 on top of purchase price to make it nice, assuming everything is as advertised.
Will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Even with all the dodgy bits it will still outsell it's cousins with steering wheel on wrong side.:smash:

Mmmm.

My main comment is don't bid blind on a car that has had major steel work and is missing bits.

I don't know... Some of the bodywork looks a bit iffy to me. Dogleg on the driver's side for instance, doesn't seem to follow the rear edge of the door. Also the edge around the rear light on the same side doesn't look the right shape, almost as if those sections have been patched - though it says full quarter panels were used. Or just my eyes maybe.

[EDIT] also the leaded joint between the quarter panel and the roof appears to have a dip from some dodgy filler work.

[EDIT 2] just noticed the swage line is wrong too, it's too sharp and by the time it gets to the back of the car it's about half an inch too low which mean's it's likely shaped out of filler.

Sorry Rob, I know you were trying to be diplomatic but I think it's worth pointing these things out (even if I do get accused of picking the car apart) :)

As has been said, its had an lot of repair work and you need to satisfy yourself that it doesnt all need doing again. Don't buy a car because of the shiny paintwork. There are a few areas that dont look right so you will have to decide if you can live with those. If is is solid then you could just redo the iffy bits in filler to make them look right and you will then have a solid usable car. They dont all have to be show queens so be realistic about what you want to end up with.

Still worth a look if your in the market for a S30 as there's not a great choice around.

If I'd had time, I might've gone and had a look at this car, being it is relatively local, and reported back. Tying into what Johnny said, a car like this really needs to be seen in the metal (and filler!) before purchase - a lot has been done, but there's a lot to do still, and does some of what has already been done need re-addressing? As Morbias noted, there are some signs from the photos of filler use and body lines and contours that are not quite right. Personally, I'd reckon it's had an arch repair panel on the RHS rather than a full quarter. It would account for how sharp the swage line looks above the arch area (the lip itself also looks slightly chunkier than factory, which is how the arch panels can come - I know because I have them on my car). This would all need looking at carefully and weighing up. It could all be fine/liveable with. Or not.

If you look at the bottom of the advert at the questions, some previous owners have put things up that I think are intended to be supportive but which tend to set alarm bells ringing when you read them.

I think it is probably typical of quite a few s30's. People don't like to spend 10k+ on sheet metalwork repairs. Any car that requires rear arches and doglegs (and most do) will require filler to recreate the shape as the repair panels were never correct so we shouldn't get too hung up on the fact they have filler. How else are you going to get the shape correct or close.

I suppose I should qualify by noting the general un-originality of my S30 Fairlady Z, thanks to its history prior to my ownership and my dumping an L28 in it! :D

S31 Fairlady Zs - it's all good (S31s generally get popularly included under the "S30Z" moniker anyway).

BTW, have you seen that awesome S31 Fairlady Z (1978) for sale in Ireland for £20k? The one Newera imported a few years ago. Stroker and all. If I had the money...

Quite a few have had the repairs done as good as new. It just depends on who's doing it I guess.
