260z 2+2.....£21000

Why own a car and then worry about what the next owner will want?

Surely owning the car is about enjoying it as YOU want and not what next guy may like? So if it's engine swaps, ZG kits, bigger wheels, non OEM paint colours, so long a the owner is happy and satisfied and knows that it may affect re-sale one day, then so be it.

Next we will want to preserve mileage, keep them in heated garages, trailer them to shows just to preserve "originality"? Where is the fun in that?

In the style of I won't shag my girlfriend so that her next boyfriend will profit - isn't THAT the trend with high value classic cars - keep them in a dark corner unsued and reselle them for a non-taxable profit ?

No I am not.........and it is fact not opinion ;)

Not discussing mechanical upgrades/swaps which may also affect value btw ;) especially as higher prices demanded. Do you see an American V8 in an E type these days ? No you don't as people recognise to achieve high prices you need to keep cars to original...ish spec. You used to see V8 swaps in E types many years ago when they were worth much less but not now, a valid comparison and point evidenced !

Put two cars of identical spec. Next to each other, one original paint colour and the other not and the former will always be worth more.

I think it is in the ballpark, maybe a bit strong bearing in mind the well known very original and nice 2 seater 260z that a member sold on here a few months ago for similar price, but shows the way the market ( or asking prices at least ) are going and maybe also that the 2+2 is now coming more into it's own as we speculated only last week :d

How much less is a 2+2 worth than a 2 seater ?
Less desirable.....no doubt, not as good looking..... No doubt, rarer......no doubt
Does rarity equal out the first two points ? Probably not.......

This aint a swap nor has the ubiquitus ZG arches sawp so common these days so pointless responding excapt that the only swapped XKE I remember was in Vanishing Point. which crashed and burned !

I, like my best mate Paul (thanks:D) don't accept the colour choice as 'fact"' ! If it works, it works - some of the TVR colours are snazzy but it's a god-damned sports-car for Chris' sake  and a lot of the contemporay 260Z colours are............boring !

Tongue in cheek mentionning of original RHD Uk market Z value as most of you appear to praise that higher - if it had been the only Z available in the UK from 1974-8 as it was in France, there wouldn't be such a bias against it !

I love it and hope it sells at +£20k.

Ford are stupid money I think all the escort are going for strong money 70s to 90 escort series 1 rs turbo

I think the price is right

You are also seeing a lot more classic left hand drives coming into the UK

which is why uk rhd cars are going up in value

Just noticed Big Mama Thornton in the credits

Never heard of her ?
From her name thought she may be some well endowed pin up of the period, like Chesty Morgan :D but seems she was a singer, did the original version of Hound Dog, that was even before your time Stevie boy surely ;)

The 2+2 was on show at the Coleford Carnival of Transport yesterday. Discreet for sale sign on dash. Smart looking car. Spoke to the owner

At the show was a yellow Raffa Belva.(only 8 made) Wow. Long chat with the owner and sat in the car. Wow. Highlight of the day

He He:D
thanks Rob

The car is not a colour that suits the Datsun IMO so there is no way I would buy it if I was looking for one. I much much prefer Andrew Muir's taste.

The asking price is 'strong' but as we have said before there is no point in discussing price. if it's right it will sell.

For what its worth I reckon this is as nice a "fairly standard looking" 2+2 as you are going to get and reckon the price is about right probably £5-7k down on what a similar 2 seater would get?

And this from a very dedicated, long-term 2+2 owner.

I found this debate was very interesting and hope it will put my car in good stead if I decide to sell. You all know a hell of a lot more than I do about prices. Tony. 448
