It really depends how much you want to spend and how you're going to use it. I've got a set of used l28 flattops on l28 rods you could possibly have for not a huge amount.
If not used, then I reckon thezstore, rockauto and other US vendors would have stock replacement.

Thanks for the offer, I think for now I will just build as stock and enjoy until I can decide on how big a future build I want to do.

Chez, whilst your engine is stripped I'd seriously consider just fitting Jon's pistons and rods. If you don't know what you're doing he may be able to guide you.

Also take care of that chain tensioner i.e. get it back in position and wedge it as per Haynes Manual.

Hi Rob, you make a good point that it may be worth just fitting the flat tops.

Don't worry about that chain tensioner, its all off and in a bag now but will reasemble properly!

sorry, I just sold the pistons :)
I'd suggest getting a new timing kit and throwing the chain, tensioner and guides away. they cost very little.

No problem, thanks for the offer.

I will be replacing most parts as I have no history on the engine

I would tweak the engine now, whilst you have it apart if you can afford it rather then doing it twice.
I know I should. Not sure I have the time at the moment to do it properly.
Pandemic has made work full on and my two year old is non stop. Oh and the wife is 12 weeks pregnant with awful morning sickness.
