Dan''s 240Z - 2nd time lucky

I agree - drove mine for the first time last weekend. very positive & solid movement and the throw is much shorter. I rather miss the 5th gear whine though.
 
I've seen this car today guys. This is what folks should buy if they want to get into S30s, NO rot and NO messing from new.

I love it!

Interior poor and lots of detail to do BUT the car has integrity which a lot of S30s don't have.

If Joe Public saw a car like this they would be put off but this is a GOOD one.
 
So I haven't really done anything more to this after getting it through the UK MOT and registering it although it is now sat back at home and road worthy! If I'm honest I don't even want to use it.

Plan of attack is to restore in sections rather than stripping the entire car down, first plan is to drop the back end and clean everything up.

Im off to California in September so will probably start work on it after this.

RIght...Its been awhile... I am hoping this weekend I can get the car back to the garage and start stripping it. I have decided not to do it in sections and just to blast straight into a full resto.

I want to make this like its just left the factory line (with minor alterations). As it currently has the earlier carbs on I am not going to go hunting for the older set up as I believe these were an improvement.

Think I will keep the 4 speed and R180 diff even though I have an R200 set up ready to go in.

Debating lowering with GAZ coilovers or getting some springs.

Must pull my finger out...
 
So finally had a drive in her from my home to the old mans garage again.

So it starts... unbelievably solid so far! Extremely happy with it.











 
Did a bit more this morning, off work next week so will finish stripping the shell and probably get it ready for primer.







 
Bit more today...

Got the broken door frame tigged up, need to cut back and polish up now.



Front suspension and rack etc all off.



Dash out... wonder how I'm going to repair the cracks



Also got the clutch m/c and brake servo off and steering column.



Will pull the heater matrix and pedal box in the morning and drop the fuel and brake lines off.



Then I'll start stripping some of the underbody sealant ready for 2k epoxy primer and fresh sealant.

Stripped all the doors too and put all the bits in sealed bags. Would like to get lots of bits zinc plated again but worry when hey pull them out the bags they won't put them back in again... would love my own bath to place things
 
Unsure on having these retreimmed in a brown and black stitched look
Similar to the original style and having the dash alacantara covered with nice stitching too to save getting a new dash. Make it a bit more my own. Still keep everything original for easy return to stock.

Those seats will require harnesses which are additional cost and less original.

Also 'three-quarter' vision is poor in a Z with the little windows and those seats won't help - not as bad as my 370Z was though.

I have some Recaros in my car and they are smashing - come and have a look and pick those springs up. ;)

Hi Rob

These seats are originally a standard 3 point belt and do not require harnesses, actually although visually designed for harnesses I do not believe they would have the strength required to take a harness.

I will pop over this week depending on where I am for work. May be best to do Friday if you are in?

Hi Franky,

As the dash Ian so cracked I was going to have it recovered in alcantara and stitched and as the rest of the interior is so discoloured follow the theme throughout.

Exterior, lowered and a nice set of wheels.
