he should start his own YouTube channel away from the BBC

And "punch" is only in the headline, they later say use the word "hitting" so who knows what happened

The BBC need to sack him, I for one will not miss his style of presenting or the childish and irresponsible things the 'team' gets away with. I VERY rarely watch it and if I do it's been recorded so I can skip the rubbish (about 95%).

I just wish we had factual motoring programmes instead of all the 'set-up' ones. We are treated like children who have to be entertained by clowns.

The horsing around and bulls**t is why they are so popular.... and if the program was really that factual, it wouldnt be on TV as 99% of population would not want to watch it.

Well said, I enjoy all of his programmes!

And all you will get is reviews of buses and trucks

The thing is, the original Top Gear format was factual; it was also stuffy and bland and had a tiny audience. That show is still on TV but it's now on Channel 5.

People either love or loathe Clarkson, I for one think the BBC need him as Top Gear is just about the only thing left on BBC worth paying the TV license for, anything interesting or slightly controversial has been ditched for politically correct, happy clappy 'this is what you should be watching because we tell you to' cr*p. There's also nothing else worth watching on a Sunday evening apart from Top Gear which I consider to be nothing more than light entertainment with some nice cars, in a very well filmed and polished package. If I wanted to watch something factual and serious then Youtube is a couple of clicks away. Top Gear is just a tool to bring car culture to the masses; kind of like Fast and Furious. Make it serious and technical and not many people are going to understand it or enjoy it.

The BBC have said they'll need to move over to being a subscription service in the very near future, if they ditch Clarkson and Top Gear they've effectively done themselves out of millions of subscriptions because I don't see that many people signing up for The Great British Sewing Bee or Countryfile.

That said, Chris Harris would be an excellent candidate for a replacement in my book, comes off as slightly Clarkson-ish (opinionated and a slight air of what could be perceived as arrogance) but explains the technical stuff in an easy to digest way.

I like Guy Martin but he's no Top Gear presenter.

I still can't figure you guys out, Top Gear ceased to be a car review show many many years ago. It's pureley a petrol head entertainment show of which there are many. Do you realise it's the top grossing show on BBC 2 by a country mile. It's one of the biggest exports the BBC has, and yes if you didn't know its wholy owned by the BBC again. Jeremy sold his stake back to the Beeb in 2012.

I do however think it needs some new blood, after seeing one the American presenters on the last show he put the present trio in the shade.

I have recently watched the show that Quintin Wilson is now presenting about classics? Thought it was utterly rubbish. As for 5th gear I haven't watched it in years. I get my fill car shows usually through what most of you wold term American rubbish such as Fast and Loud.

Top Gear is about entertaining which it must be doing rather well given the viewing figures. FFS if you don't like it go watch Call the Midwife.

And no I haven't signed the online petition because if Jeremy has landed one on some one then he deserves what he gets. However things are as usual looking to have been blown out off all proportion by the media where Jeremy is concerned as usual.

Top Gear is light entertainment. It is three, middle-aged mates larking about with the glue being their interest in cars. The central dynamic to its success is the relationship between the three of them - their banter, cock-ups, adventures, daft ideas etc. That's why so many people watch it. Take that away and it is finished as a show. There are not replaceable. There is no mass market for a show presented by, or in the style of a 21st Century version of William f##king Woollard. Fifth Gear is fine - when I can be bothered to very occasionally watch it. And I'm an enthusiast, so what does that suggest about the mass audience potential?

Danny Cohen and the other hateful, PC, left-biased drones running the Beeb have been aching for an opportunity to get rid of Clarkson for years. :smash: If they get their wish this time though they may just regret it when the hundreds of millions the show makes in global syndication, merch, etc., dry up. Also, cue Sky or ITV stepping in with mega-offers. Of course, the Beeb can just pretend their lofty moral high ground takes precedence as it doesn't need to actually make money what with the licence fee screwing us all annually.

Interesting to note that none of the three seem to consider it a serious situation. Jeremy, Hamster and May were all taking the **** a bit on Twitter last night and Clarkson was seen in the pub and quoted from Shaun of the Dead, saying "I'm going to have a nice cold pint and wait until this blows over". The media are being hysterical and the Beeb look shifty and opportunist in their reaction (pulling the rest of the planned series... really necessary?).

If it does go pop, it might incentivise Clarkson and the others to kick things up a gear consistency-wise with a new version elsewhere.

Top Gear won't survive without Clarkson. The Director of the BBC has already made a rather unguarded comment where he basically said he didn't think this would be the end of him because he draws in too much money for the beeb.

LONG LIVE CLARKSON!

Clarkson and the others might walk anyway after this - their contracts expire imminently, and if someone else offers them far more money....

Hear, hear, Rob! Bunch of overgrown schoolboys in my opinion running their own self-appreciation society. Won't miss them.

Don't you think there are already too many liberal, hand wringing, fence sitting, PC correct, nicey nicey, happy clappy t**ts around?
The world needs controversial colourful characters who are prepared to be be outspoken otherwise it’s a slippery slope to mediocrity.

As everyone is having a say, might as well put my 2 cents worth in.
Top Gear is not meant to be an informative program!
I hate all the PC stuff that is around these days, and Clarkson and others like him sometimes ruffle a few feathers, but so what thats life!
I know Clarkson is a bit of a fool, but he's my fool!:)

I also don't see how not showing the shows is punishing him, seems like its punishing the viewers? just show the episodes and just don't pay him.

I don't think they can show the last three episodes because they haven't filmed them yet.

Steve you misunderstand - it's the stupidity and irresponsibility that I can't stand. Plus the 'set-up' races across country and the deceit.

I Dont like Clarkson for his attitude but hey that does not matter

What does matter is someone has allegedly threatened to lump someone at their work place and if it is true he should be sacked

Have you thought what would happen to you if you at lunchtime and your food was late and went up to to the person who might be responsible for this and threatened to punch his lights out Oh thats right you would be down the road and even more so if you were on a final warning

That we do agree on, there is a degree of subterfuge and its seems as though the old adage "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time" is the order of the day.

And therein lies the heart of the matter!

Once had a colleague in a global blue chip firm who threw his phone in anger at a secretary, swore obscenities at me across the office over saying good morning to him and blatantly bullied people. Guess what, he got promoted - why? He brought in client money.

Steve, can't agree more with you.

Sadly, seems that in the current society ethical standards are negotiable where money matters.

Nice example Ali.... I have one as well.... Meeting with my manager ended with me throwing an A4 book at him, telling him "to go **** himself" and me walking out. Next day I was offered double the money and got an apology.

Obviously more to it, but we dont know the full story either.

Lunch, is also hardly a fair example.... if you had been working all day, 8-9 hours and some idiot forgot to order food, tell me you wouldnt have ago..... I know I would.

Clarkson and the others might walk anyway after this - their contracts expire imminently, and if someone else offers them far more money....

I was wondering if anyone would notice that..... wonder if Sky has a nice budget for an entertainment show like that?!? Would actually make me get Sky
