% of hybridz !

So how many hybridz are there in the UK ? Even assuming that the hybridz are of US stock, there are still only 150 odd registered in the UK ! So the % may be higher than 6.6 !

Ausland ? Who gives a fig ?

How many Hybrids in the UK? I have no idea! How many are there on this Forum?

Worth a poll?

What I would speculate at though, is the US cars are in excess of 15%, maybe even 20%, hybrid now. Why? Because the US has a car dominated culture and as a nation having been banging V8's into anything that didn't already have one for years and years! Also US engine tiers always had straight sixes as the base engine with V8's at the top *duck*.

I suppose there is one thing for sure though, we will never definitively know if you or I are correct here, unless of course someone wants to do one hell of a lot of research. However, it would be interesting to know how many Hybrids there are in the UK though?

Lol! :D Puts a whole new spin on the ol' "patting the head while rubbing your tum" co-ordination test! :D

""Also US engine tiers always had straight sixes as the base engine with V8's at the top *duck*."" Valid point but there is a history of imported cars with 6 pots that people haven't spoilt (oops - did I say that ? :) , I mean customised ? by dropping V8s into :

Austin Healeys
early Maseratis
Mercedes
Porsches
Triumphs
Aston Martins
Jaguars

not to mention others that consider that 4 more cylinders are top duck (V12s) !

So why Zeds ?

'Cos they're cheap and their value is not too bad to lose by being un-original ?
'Cos they look like they should have a V8 ( 'vette lookalike) ?
'Cos they're easy to shoe-horn different engines inside ?

more/other reasons ?

So, who does the poll - not me, no-one would take me seriously, they'd think I was having a go - up to you Steve !

The only way you're gonna get an accurate percentage of how many hybrid
transplants are here in the U.k & for that matter the U.S,Is if you became a
fly on the wall of every Goddam, Groll's like,Skiddellistic,Jarman-majestic,
Garage,Workshop,tune place................
When you're ready! start counting...

(hang on you missed a lad in Bogner Regis:D DJZ 60.

I think it's just because Z is an easy swap and the noise matches the looks.

Not many cars imho look as nice as the Z, and if they do they probably are:-
a) too expensive to devalue by changing the engine (E-types with v8s? Just keep the Jag v12)
b) already sorted in the engine department (200+bhp)

And it's a straightforward operation.

Also the Z is up to the job of the v8 and dependant on what you're doing with it you don't need to work on the rest of the car a great deal for it to be useable.

I guess it probably snowballed as well.

""dependant on what you're doing with it you don't need to work on the rest of the car a great deal for it to be useable.""

What do you mean here Russ ? And what do you define as a great deal ?

Well I guess that brings this thread to an end then. I'll have a look at how you set up these poll things, I need to allow people to vote for more than one category if they have more than one car, not sure that can be done?

Why do you think nobody would take you seriously if you did it?

Well all I can say is thank god Carroll Shelby spoilt that horrible AC thing:p

V8's come-on:devil:

Thank God Carroll Shelby took on the team management of the Toyota 2000GTs leaving Peter Brock out of it and there to take on the Zs ! 'Cos he did a whole lot better than Shelby did with the Toyotas :)

Steve, if you pm/email me your question and options for the poll, I'll post it up with multiple choice ! And I might not even add anything on the end either !

Just remember, its not the size of the connection but the Ping that matters!!

I mean if you just want the v8 sound, and use your car to cruise around in, never really driven in anger.

If that's all you want then once a v8 is fitted, from what I can gather, the rest of it should hold up without uprating.

If your engine dies and need a donor then v8 is one option.

Any V8 conversion will warrant upgrading the brakes, suspension, drivetrain and cooling Russ, whether one's going to cruise around or blast it !

I consider that a great deal !

Admittedly this what one also should do for an upgraded L series engine .........but how many cars out there are running 2.8s and others with triples that haven't properly upgraded the brakes/suspension/cooling and maybe the drivetrain ?

Although I would agree that upgrading the 1960's brakes and suspension technology is a VERY sensible idea on any Z engine conversion (or even standard car), I would not consider essential (advisable yes!) if you just wanted to cruise the car around.

There are cars out there with far more power and far worse brakes/suspension. Also you can get a slight understanding about why muscle cars where called 'muscle' cars, no pwr steering and usually no pwr brakes with drums all round

Drive train shouldn't need an upgrade unless you're wanting to be a complete animal with a manual gearbox and have fitted a LSD and cooling is just a rad swap for the one in my gallery with an electric fan bolted to it.

Go on Russ, never mind that rebore stick a V8 in there:devil:
