NEC Classic Car Show

I (personally) agree with all of this.

What does THAT mean Rob ?

And this has been proposed before - ask Burnsie, perhaps it might work now but before the answer was fairly categoric.

And can we have up on this forum for easy, quick public consultation please the constitution ?

And IF it doesn't spell out the clubs' aims, can that also be placed in a visible.....place :) please ?

Go on chaps, ask me why - I dare you.

Yes it was a great day was a shame only one 240z was there as mentioned but it was a nice car and did the marque proud. I dont see why people are moaning about cost according to the website club stands are free and all we need is flags and bunting to advertise the club which we already have that stuff. It's the cars that people are there for not props and gimmicks. And if we can do a joint venture with the z register then why not.

The space is wot you pay for from wot i was told a few years ago, depends on amount of space, that stands for pretty much any exibition, twopenny show, matter of opion, try the bromley pageant, the NEC doesnt get near for choice and also cars that get used, just 1 example, plenty more and they are not as much of a rip off,as for working with the register, too much snobbery between certain members and they dont even return yer emails of phone calls,i only wanted to join and got no reply from either,i call that ignorant, now the pricing might have changed over the last few years but i still stick with wot i said before, if you want to put your car on a stand at the nec then you pay for it,unless as someone said its free, dont see why you should use my membership money and get nowt back finacially for the club,if the club wants to spend money then dont charge people at the zed meet we have in nottingham,

You keep going on about using your money! I will be happy to spend my money on petrol getting the car there and any costs (if there are any) to display my car. I haven't seen any reference in this or other threads that mention this event being payed for out of club money. If that's your only objection about this event then I don't thing it's valid. As for the 2 clubs not joining for events, that may have been the case in the past, but that's no reason to stop trying to make it happen. I also think your car would make a perfect example of a tastefully modified z and by an ideal car to represent the club so stop being so negative and bring your car out more.

Hi,
I went to the NEC show this year...Haven't been since 2004, it would be good to see the Z Club back there again!
I originally joined the club as a result of seeing the Z Club stand at the NEC in the early 1990's, after someone on the stand gave me a back issue of the club magazine.

I had been thinking of getting another 280ZX at the time and bought a 300ZX not long after.

Jon from wot i was told in the past if you knew how much it cost you would soon change your mind mate,as for joining up with the register good idea if it happened, depends on certain membersand im not being negative just stating the facts from the past, and i get out quite a bit in the zed, even in the rain and snow, not this last 2 months though as i have got a detached retina,3 operations later still no sight,if getting coverage and promoting the zed is all that matters to some people then there are some great shows up and down the country where that would happen anyway and it doesnt cost anything

I've just come in at the end of this thread and am a little confused by some of the comments around cost. I often support my father-in-laws post vintage Humber club (because its difficult for him to drive) at the NEC and go most years. The only costs involved are the time and materials to put up a stand and man it. There is no cost involved to the club for having a stand there.

Yes the benefits are intangible for having a presence there. And yes they don't get many new members from it, but it certainly ensures the mark is still in the public eye. I don't think it would do the club any harm to remind the general public our cars still exist. But that is just my opinion.

I would be more than happy to help man a stand even though my car is still a long way off from being exhibited. I know this subject has be around the buoy a few times in the past, but perhaps this topic should be put up for a vote?

Huw

don't know if i could show my car on z register stand as its not a 240z failed when i spoke to them at last years show and didn't seem intreated in my 280zx which is fair enough

Extract from the AGM notes:

There was a lengthy discussion about amalgamation with other Z clubs. Out of that came a proposal that we should be at the NEC. We had been a few times but it was hard work for those involved. Charles Leekam and Rob Gaskin offered to help and also to begin investigations.

Candy Red and Derrick, your help would be much appreciated.

im just going by wot i was told a few years ago by a well known member on here, things might have changed as for the register bit, well candy red has just confirmed wot i said earlier

Lol so my discussion of my current project at the NEC this weekend should have been expected :D
So what are you doing to your car?
Well I am space framing the front end, shoehorning in an RB30 and replacing the natural curves with a Calsonic style one off body kit.................................................. :D

When we used go back in the early 2000 and before the stands displays used to have Lighting on them backboards in one case a turntable rotating Big Sam in another case we had smoke machines blowing out smoke as if I remember correctly we also had to submit a plan and proposal of what we were intending to do on the stand as they did not want at that time just a couple of cars on the stand without any backdrop and they also wanted some sort of general information on the cars included in the displayd and all of these requirements plus it going from a 2 day show to a three day show did not make it a viable proposition to carry on displaying at the show

After interest and enthusiasm in having a stand at the show in 2013 from a lot of the newer members and to follow up the proposal at the 2012 AGM to carry out investigation of the viability and logistics of attending the show next year we got a couple of people who were going to the show to report back on what sort of background displays were there and it would appear that now a lot of the stands do not now have the extensive backdrops that were expected from the NEC show organisers back in the days of when the Z Club used to attend every year and as these backdrops were no longer required this would reduce the expenditure greatly from what we used to pay when we were regular exhibitors at the show

Further investigations into what is needed and required to make a success of attending the show are still being investigated and we are waiting on an idiots guide from an exhibitor at the show showing what was involved for them in carrying out the whole thing from the early planing to setting up and manning the stand right up to the dismantling it and clearing it away

Once all the information is in place the NEC will be included in the annual poll of events that Marco puts up each year for members to give the committee some sort of feed back off what events/shows they would most like to attend

cheers for that porky well put Is there a cost to the club and if so for how many cars,as it is a classic car show wot models will be put on the stand if it goes ahead, and wot financial gains are there for the club

Reason for the post is to try and clarify that the committee had been investigating the pros and cons and the status quo of attending the NEC show in the background since the matter was brought up at the last AGM and once we feel that all information is gathered and collated we would then be in a far better position to give an unbiased report and let the members give their feelings on whether they would like a stand at the NEC

I would be more than happy to help set up stand at NEC, if that isn't possible to do NEC what about a stand at SILVERSTONE CLASSIC it may be more for tickets but you can camp there theres racing and live bands at night just a thought:):)

All good comments and if it serves the club well then do it but club members have a right to know the cost if it happens

I disagree entirely with any of the comments about snobbery and hypocrisy when talking about the Z register guys too, they have only ever been welcoming and friendly when I have met any of them.

They were friendly enough when i spoke to the at Silverstone Classics but as 280zx owner i just wanted to join a club to show my car
