Should Matt Bannister get his race car on the road ?

A few of us have been thinking that Matt Bannister should get his HSCC race car on the road – it might give him something to do and stop him from going on about why other peoples cars are not finished yet or not on the road.

So let’s look at a few facts –

Matt hasn’t raced since 2007; that’s 4 years ago and even then it only raced in the first meeting of the season.

Whilst it is a race car, it still has the requirement to be road legal so therefore could quite easily be put back on the road regardless of any racing intentions.

Ok so it will be a bit harsh in some respects, but as with many Z’s they are not used as regular transport so we are only talking about trips to the odd show, a bit of drag racing and a few meetings – 3000 miles if he’s lucky, that’s less than what he was doing driving on the road to all those race meetings in the past.

No doubt he’ll see this poll and you can hear all the excuses for yourself, but this car has never looked better since it’s rebuild and it sits in his garage doing nothing…….NOTHING !!

So gentlemen, cast your votes :):)

I think if he doesn't get it going again we should change his forum name from racer to passenger :)

I feel it lets down those who assisted to get his car back together again after his flamboyant, headline-grabbing PR stunt !

Peple helped physically, financially and with the donation of parts so yes, get it used on the track where it belongs.

And if I might add a slight jibe, when it's set up by the top man in the country, don't "fix it" - leave well alone and race to win !

Now......if help be needed to finance a season, let's start talking but ffs do SOMETHING !

Rob bit like 'the kettle calling the pot black' if you ask me. Your shit stirring is reaching great heights.

As you know the desire has to come from within, you can't successfully bully anyone into something.

Here is unseen footage taken by myself of Matt's last race.

The perfect example of why it is important to choose your financial supporters carefully.

Did you make it clear to Matt that the help that was being offered at the time of the rebuild was dependent on him finishing the car and returning it to the track?

I am obviously fortunate with my sponsors because there is not the pressure being placed on me to take the car out. it goes out when it and myself are ready and that is the attitude that you should be showing Matt.

But hell hopefully after reading your comment he may make the effort you want and get the car back on the track for you not to go to meetings to see your money/parts making the grid. Or he may put the car on the road and drive a totally impracticle car to places for you not to see it.

I don't care if I don't see it - I DO care that a racing Z isn't - I assisted to see the car back racing, not languishing and that was clear.

Ian/sean and others that may be interested
It may not require work to get it back on the track. But it does require a significant amount of money to get it to and compete in a race series.
Maybe due to the current economic climate those funds are not as readily available
I would say that there was a significant amount of money that Matt had to fork out for the rebuild despite the generosity of club members.
My little off in August last year has so far cost over £1000 with me doing the labour.
Add to that the MSA keep instigating new regs which inevitably also add cost then it should be appreciated that there is far more to consider than just having a car.

If the club members are so worried about there being race cars stuck in garages collecting dust instead of being out on the track then do something to raise funds to help us keep these cars running and competing rather than winging and sending people on guilt trips.

Alternatively buy one of the race cars and you try running one. Everyone has a price

These thoughts are my own and Matt if I have spoken out of turn then I apologise

Chaps, this is about getting it on the road for some use and some fun in the mean time.

Going racing is a different kettle of fish :)

I am right in assuming this poll is a bit of fun? and is more banter than anything else. I would hate to be considered one to make comments about how long it take people to get things done on their cars ;).

Ben - would you prefer that I say nothing ? READ what I wrote and if every time I write something, you get upset - take an asprin :p !

After that, Matt does what he likes with the car, road, track or garage dust-gathering.

Matt confessed to me (in tears) that the thought of getting behind the wheel does in fact make just a little bit of wee come out....not a pretty thought and I think we should all act carefully on this as I suspect that there is deep mental scarring.

So with that caring and sharing thought

OI you big puff, stop getting on at everyone else and sort your shed out
