3 golden rules when buying a car;

1. never look at one in the dark(petrol station forcourts make it look better than it is because of the lighting)

2. even shitty paint jobs and uneven boddy pannels look good in the rain.

3. above all take some one with you who knows their stuff.

9000s, congrats mate on a first effort. You have now past the stage of knowing "jack sh.." I didnt sayit would be easy as 240/260s are now very rare cars. Just keep getting out there and looking its the only way.
Now I dont wish to pry into other peoples money matters, and you are right to have a budget in place BEFORE you leave home, but if you could possibly go up in price a little then you might save more in the long run. In my opinion £3500 is a bit tight to find a decent 240. You might find a 260 at this money that isnt a rot box though.

£3500 was a figure I wanted to spend. But if push comes to shove I could go higher, but like any businessman I'm not going to offer top dollar yet if you get my drift

Actually there is one particular car advertised on her I really do like (240z) but its colour puts me off spending what I consider is my absolute max

i must admit when i was looking for a 260 2+2 all the ones i looked at were full of filler and rotten even the ones at around 3500. its very hard to find a decent car even if you are able to pay top money. i was willing to pay upto 5k for a good one but my decision was to buy a straight car with no serious rot and spend,spend,spend and by jesus am i spending. (im keeping a running total ouch!) just go in with eyes open wide and good luck on your search!
