Z progress

Well got a bit done at the engine today, got the pistons in and the head on. I have aftermarket cam kit that came with springs, should the cam be much harder to turn with with these springs over standard ones?

The set up looks very dry of oil. Coat bores, pistons, cam and anything that moves with oil as if not will damage when started.

A failure to do so will result in a fooked and under developed engine regardless of what you do after.

well i just wiped off the top of the pistons before putting the head on, the rings and piston were dipped into oil before they were put into the block........I was reading instructions that came with the cam kit and said to use a special oil on the cam before startup, and also when first started to keep it above 2000rpm for 15 mins?

dipping pistons with rings into oil is an old idea and not normally recomened these days.

If the new cam survives the first 20 mins of startup it should last the life of the rest of the motor. so yes the engine must start up and stay running at 2000 to 2500 rpm for 20 mins,
I find your better off using the old dizzy and carb set up that you know will work ok, then once you all happy with it you can set up new ignition etc

Looking like good progress wouldnt mind seeing this car since i'm not far from you

Yeah you can drop down any time to have a look..............Well i can wire up the Edis 6 unit so that it will start in limp mode and only run 10deg timing advance by not connecting the unit to the megasquirt, Ill do that until the cam is run in then setup the megasquirt.

Thanks
Jay

Well the engine is almost finished now, just a few little bits and pieces left to do.

Well got the engine in the car today and she runs nicely, no probs so far, held it at 2000rpm for 15 minutes and everything was fine, then went for a quick drive only about a mile down the road as i had no doors or windows lol, only prob I have at the moment is with the idle, I think I need bigger idle jets, Ill get it tuned properly on a rolling road when I have a few miles up on it, Got my new wheels yesterday too very happy with them.

Back to the bodyshop next week to be finished off.

few more pics, the car will be going back to the bodyshop at the end of the week to be finished off.

Went for 17x10 -19 offset in the rears with 255 tyres and 17x9.5 front with 235 tyres,

Yeah wheels are nice but the centre caps are not long enough, im going to have to try extend them.

WOW !!! love the new look of the car and the wheels will look fantastic .

Yeah its coming together quicker than I thought it would, should be going for the respray thursday or friday.

Well the car is off to get sprayed on saturday so I mounted the rear arches today and put the wheels on one side to see how it looked from the side, being a 2+2 I wasn't sure how it would look, but I don't think it looks too bad........Im happy with it so far.

Looks superb. It's definitely a more dynamic pose. Cracking choice of wheels! I'll probably get shouted down by everyone but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone / has anyone put those flares on the arches and blended them in to the body or is there a ready made kit for it? The reason I ask is because the lines look incredible now and personally I reckon that if they're in black it might "interupt" what is starting to change the way peeps look at the 2+2. That is not to say that people who keep them black are in the wrong. It looks cool. I just think in this instance, it would be an awesome break from the norm to go 1 louder (up to 11). Those wheels at that width are enough I think.

I'm boring myself now but it's a really, really cool looking car and done at Herculean speed. Keep going! I'm sure the result will be incredible. It's wow-ing people now and you're only in primer!
