Which one is yours then ? The blue 260 ?
Yes Sean, it used to belong to Ross Hamilton, I bought it before Christmas.

There are some pics of her (Delores) in my gallery :)

My best Z moment is similar to 'White Zed'. I bought my car off a guy in Belfast and had to drive it back via Strenrae in Scotland to Bristol, me and my son Jimmer shared the driving. We absolutely p*****d back, the speedo seldom dropped below a 100, and it performed flawlessly. What an induction to Zeds. Marvelous.

1) Buying my 260 after fifteen years of wanting one.

2) Picking up the freshly fettled and resprayed car from Gary Bellamy. I had a grin like a cheshire cat all the way home.

3) Going through the Dartford Tunnel side by side with a 350Z Cabrio on the way back from Brands Hatch in May '04. He did the old trick where you drop back from the car in front and then give it some stick in the tunnel. It has to be said that the 350 sounded very nice. But then I did it too - zooooooOOOOMMM backfire-bang crackle etc. Utterly awesome!!!!

4) Blowing away an Audi TT Quattro last August Bank Holiday. He was a bit surprised to say the least.

5) NOT being featured in the BBC's Car Nation programme after realising it was full of nutters :)

Sorry to turn the thread on its head, but my best Z moment is going to be when I actually get to drive one!:D

The mid '80s were full of good moments but there is one that sticks in my mind:

Going to work in my old red 240, 4:30 in the morning, nothing on the road but me. Its a dual carriageway with a long sweeping right hander. Mid corner, doing 120ish, feeling like a proper racing driver and lovin it. Car handling superb............then things went a little....err, well, "floppy". Started to brake and the car started to do a sharp left, took my foot off the brake before leaving the road and finished the bend, still in "floppy mode" and used the hand brake to eventually slow down to a stop. When I checked underneath I found that the left-hand side of the front cross member had decided it no longer wanted to be attached to the chassis and was hanging down with a 4” gap between them.

How is this a good memory?
Being alive to tell the tail.

Grolls - have you NEVER driven a Z then ? !

Nope, it was the looks and the sound that sold it to me. I sat in one and thought "this car has a heart and a soul" I want one!...simple really.

And no-one's offered you a ride in one either ? Way to go though - brave lad !

Yes I have been offered a ride in one, but thats just not the same is it?

Before I undertook the 260, I had a budget of 20k to purchase a classic and then about 10k for restoration max.I looked at E type Jag's,CV8,FF Jensen's, Stags and all sorts of others. A mate had a 260 years ago and i liked the shape so I started the hunt. TBH all I found was over priced rubbish at the time so I decided on a basket case that had a solid floor as a good basis and everything else can be bought or made.so here we are to date!:D

30k for a 2+2 ? I am a little player !

I would reccomend driving as many Zs as poss to know if yours is really what you want, or if there are little extras that you want to do (whilst it's still in pieces) !

I am not actually spending 30k on a 2+2. I have turned down drives in other peoples cars because everything =is personalised to them.

I do have a clear aim so to speak and that is to have a fairly quick 260 2+2. Everything underneath is to be referbed or replaced using new nuts, bolts, washers, seals and gaskets. this should buy me me a few years motoring whilst I decide on any changes I choose.

My only concern that I still hav'nt decided on is the ride height of the car or indeed the wheels. I do have a set of 7" wolfies here but I would like some 15 or 16 " wheels only because of tyre choice and to try and fill the arches a little more.

Oh, and my car should weigh about the same as it came from the factory unlike many 2 seaters that now carry loads of added filler/steel plates and tons of welding and bucket loads of underseal to hide years of rot!:p

Grolls - I hope it weighs more dur to extra rustproofing and thicker paint :) Still heavier than a 240, I'm relieved to say (and that's without weighing the drivers) !

No matter what I did behind the wheel of a Z, this man did more, earlier and quicker.

And as the title requests "Your best Z memory" ---- this is the man that was racing Samuri's before you were dreaming of them

Steve K - I don't care - he was beaten to it by the Japanese and the Americains - there's always someone faster, quicker and been there before !

What was YOUR best memory with a Z ?

ps I am not a Samuri fan :)
