Woohoo! Got one!

I think the size of the plate does matter, if its too small or too big it won't fit securely in the bracket. (These aren't supposed to be screwed down into the bodywork, they are secured by the bracket.)

Great looking Zed, welcome to the band of Zed owners looks great from the photots. See you at some shows/ meets hopefully later in the year...

Yup, shame it's not mine ;) I think my house would fit in the driveway of that one, with room to spare  Still on the bright side I'm going to be moving soon so hopefully the new Rob estate will have a double garage at least :D

Cheers,
Rob

At the rsk of being pedantic, I think the rear plate is better at 12 1/2 in by 7 in. This gives a better coverage of the edges of the rear light surrounds. It is in fact the width of the centre mounting plate. You are bang on George about the need to have it correct height to fit in the bracket and just be held by a couple of pieces of double sided adhesive foam strip, so NO SCREWS are used.
Now who is gonna be first to say they aint got the centre mount plate????

Probably me! But I do have a lot of heavy duty velcro which I've been using to keep my Elise's plates on with.

Hi All,

My copy of Essential Datsun Z came today so it was straight to page 27 and there she was :D

So now a couple of question sfor he experts. In the book she's got 240Z embelms on the rear quarter panels, she's now got the standard Z ring. The 240Z emblem was only used for the very early Zs right? So was the original owner taking liberties?

It would seem like I've lost the wheel centre caps somewhen. Are these still available? They look slightly better then the hub sticking through ;)

The numberplate is black with silver lettering. According to the V5 the car was first registered in October 1973 which is well past the cut off date for black plates so where they just being naughty? Also given the first reg date why is the car on an L plate now? That should only be up to August '73 IIRC. I found this thread:
http://www.zclub.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59and apparently I've got one of the unusual VIN numbers, greater then 101537 so clearly it's a late model 240Z. Do you think the car was assigned an approximate age plate when the 24 OZ plate was removed and is it worth going to the local DVLA to get an accurate age plate?

Cheers,
Rob

nice to see Margaret Bukowska's old 240 back in the club again
the 240 Z number plate was transfered to her husband Mark's 240Z

By August 1973 the 260Z would have been coming down the production line, so the latest build date for your 240Z would have been July 1973. It is not uncommon for there to be a 3 - 6 month gap between build and U.K. registration. IMO an "L-reg" plate is exactly correct for your car.

Well, yep L is nice, would have prefered it to be a few months older admittedly but according to the V5 it simply shouldn't be an L. It's VIN is also higher than the 14001 - 101537 July 1972 - July 1973 so it's probably just one of those oddities.

Now then, as it's on an L plate, can I get away with black license plates and not get told of by the Boys in Blue? Black would look so much better on the rear than the yellow! I'm so vain ;)

Cheers,
Rob
