Ive pretty much settled on a Subaru Forester, I quite like the 240bhp turbo petrol but its only available with the CVT ling along a max box so a diesel manual may be the better option. I will see and hopefully drive both.

Forester XT or Cross Sport if you're feeling fancy. Make sure it's standard engine and there isn't significant rust

Its not mine thats gone fortunately but 2 of my friends have both had the same issue, one under warranty and one not.
Its a well documented issue with the 3.0 engine unfortunately. I think if you consider how many have been sold worldwide it won't be a big percentage but significant enough to raise concerns.
