To be honest I got a quote fro Lancaster Insurance and they where too good to even beat, I'm 25 and wanted the 280zx as my second car kept (I know this hurts but) on the drive infront of the house, (the garage has my bikes in there so no room.) and I was getting rediculous quotes in the 4 figure realm which was annoying and Lancaster offered me a fully comp policy using none of my no claims (based on the Z being a classic) required no millage proof or survey, (even though its a 5k limit) and offered me a FREE valuation at any time during the year that I wanted it but took my word that it was worth est 4.5k Now my regular car and thats there only stipulation, is a Saab 93 costing £1754 a yr fully comp (bloody post code!) the Z was quoted and wait for this £294.31 I bit there arm off at the ankl;e and infact called them to make sure I hadnt made this figure up! but they are fantastic and I note they are not listed in your recomended insurance ppl but give them a try, google Lancaster insurance and try an online quote. But back to my original post how do I get a membership card? do I need to contact some one? and is the magazine purely online now? I have soooooo many hard copies from days gone by.

I've been around a while and never ever had a membership card (not that I'm complaining as I don't think it's useful for anything for me.) My number was assigned automatically when I registered so I assume it's still the same. And yup, the 'megazine' is now fully online (although it's also downloadable to print). It's quite good too, I've seen it...

I'm insured with Aon & found them to be cheaper than 2 others(can't remember who) that advertise in CCW so stuck with Aon.

The membership secretary has been away for a while.
I'd give Steve a call tomorrow but he'll already know as soon as he sees this post. You'll both be turned red in the next day or so. I'd do it my self if I knew how but I don't. Steve can and so will. I apologise profusely on behalf of the committee and hopefully a better solution to this will present itself sooner rather than later. I myself am having having quite a few problems lately with bits n bobs but I hope to remedy these again, sooner rather than later!

Oh, and a Happy & Prosperous new year to all of you's!

Well Im not having a go at you Jak over the fact that the membership
secretary is not around but your post just highlights the basic problem.
If you click and join to become a new member which is the easy way to do it there is NOTHING to tell any new or prospective new member that they wont be attended to for God knows how long.
Its just not good enough.
I have watched this club decline from a membership base in excess of 800 to a figure less than half that in recent years. Treating new members in this way (and existing ones too ) will only lead to a further decline in interest in the club and even fewer members.
Now I got slated a while back for levelling criticism at the membership system(or lack of it )before. subsequent events did however show that my criticism was well placed.
and once again Im not having a personal go at the current membership secretary.
However if ANY of the committee are unable to fulfil their purported roll for whever reason it is only common courtesy for the Club aka the committee to inform the members/potential members . In a similar way to businesses/Ebay retailers etc who post up their "Holiday Closing " hours .
A simple Pop-up message in the Joining sequence stating ...
" Due to unforseen circumstances there will be a delay in acknowledging your membership/sending out documents"
would have prevented this entire thread ;)

And Let me just answer the inevitable "If you think you can do better why dont you volounteer " reply before it appears.
I dont think I can do better or else I would have done so 15 years ago.

Pete,

Whilst I appreciate your dismay at the current situation, being a CAR CLUB do you honestly expect the admin to reprogramme the entire site to let members/prospective new members know that their payment processing may take one or two days extra? I may speak for myself here but as site admin we do our damndest to satisfy EVERYONE, from Jak on the media side providing calendars at the drop of the hat, Steve keeping an eye on things and looking after Nidges job when he can't get to the computer, to myself doing everything I can to keep the site running for all out members....

I'm sure you have had a nice relaxing new year, so why shouldn't we? We put a MASSIVE number of hours into making this site the best we possibly can for you all, so to see negative comments like the above is a bit below the belt! I'm sure you were working christmas day as well?!?!?!

If you feel you should only stick to 300zx.co.uk thats fine, ask for your money back and refrain from competing in the ZClub Drag challenge, thats your choice;)

Now PLEASE stop giving the committee a hard time, we are doing our very BEST to give you all the best possible club that we can!

Cheers,

Andy

PS I'll pretend I didn't see the comment about Saz....

What? No answer? We're supposed to live our lives on here just in case there's a member in distress? You can't be that arsed

Err no. I dont. A quick "sticky" in the "News" section would do

that their payment processing may take one or two days extra?

I still haven't got my membeship card yet from November!
thats more than a couple of days.
I may speak for myself here but as site admin we do our damndest to satisfy EVERYONE, from Jak on the media side providing calendars at the drop of the hat, Steve keeping an eye on things and looking after Nidges job when he can't get to the computer, to myself doing everything I can to keep the site running for all out members...
I accept that entirely and nothing in my original thread was critical of the running of the site.
We put a MASSIVE number of hours into making this site the best we possibly can for you all, so to see negative comments like the above is a bit below the belt!
Well the automatic Paypal membership wasnt working and Steve has already acknowledged that fact. It was indeed a negative comment but it was true and I therefore dont see it as below the belt.I saw it as a valid criticism.

I'm sure you were working christmas day as well?!?!?!
fortunately I managed to avoid Christmas day Rota. I was however on duty till 5.30PM Christmas eve. 6.30PM New Years eve. I will aslo be working all day Jan 2nd and half a day Sat 3rd. Not too bad given that Im only supposed to be a part timer now.
Now PLEASE stop giving the committee a hard time,
I dont intend to break the habit of a life time.
Valid criticism is simply a hazard of public life on any forum.;)
it just gets down to what you consider valid:D

PS I'll pretend I didn't see the comment about Saz....
the comment didnt originate from me it was a general consensus of several blokes;)

Just a thought - who sent out my renewal reminder last week if the Membership Secretary was not around for the last 3-4 weeks?
As pmac said a quick one line thread saying that there was an issue would suffice - I am not asking for details.
We are pushing for online based membership so I wonder if the IT specialists can advise something to remove the paperwork side? .

For a none profit Car Club for the Z cars I think they all do a fantastic job and to be frank (I have only been a member a few months) They are one of the nicest most ameniable group of people on this earth. I have had help, praise and information from people I have never met and more importantly support from people I have never met on subject I have no idea on other than a Haynes manual so I think the £15 the wait nd the service this site offers is not only good but outstanding and I swear blind I wish I could remember the name of the guy who called to see if my membership was complete, he was thwe nicest person I have had on the phone in a long time, genuine, empathetic and more than anything INTERESTED! For £15 or so quid a year try gettigna service like that from any other magazine like max power fast for performance VW or any of them. for a stand alone web site that STILL PRODUCES a MAGAZINE is amazing and that they CARE about there readers/viewever is a noval thing in this day and age! where monewy is king and care is none existant. I think this site is fantastic and just as a thing how many places allow a free advertising service? I think if you try auto trader thats £20 a week so i think this may be a worth while investment if ever your wish to buy or sell. So dont jump before you think it through. I'm sorry to sound like new blood witch is young, dumb and full o cum. But I do feel strongly against unfair criticsm. sorry and all you that do the work I thank you please for us that love this site keep it up!

I too received a full postal reminder last week.
IMO a total waste and duplication of effort.

I always get loadsa flack when I post up critcism.
So I decided to leave that bit out initially.
But it must be happening all the time.
Time and funds that may well be used elsewhere

I didn't get a reminder, I just went black.

But you did turn back...

Sure there's a saying in there somewhere... but I think the automated system should work and it was pointed out quite rightly. I've never done any kind of eCommerce so my knowledge of that is pretty frickin weak to say the least but it will get looked at as it seems the IT department we have / did have is not very active these days (so I guess i'll have to as I am).

This thread prompted me to check, and I don't seem to have had a new card either (cheque cashed in Sept.).

There was a bit of a problem as I didn't get a renewal but this was sorted with the paint pot

I will have to e-mail membership sec to chase it up as I do want the card, which will be my 26th
