top radiator hose

I know this is probably a trivial question but its got me curious. Why has the top radiator hose got a directional arrow ???

I've seen this arrow on a number of z engine photos. Apparently my particular hose was supplied my Mike at eastern Auto in 2012. The previous owner has fitted it the wrong direction (to the thermostat) rather than the correct direction (to the radiator). However, the way he's fitted it would look to give better clearance over the distributor. Surely the hose direction doesn't matter ?! I only ask because i've got a leak (under pressure) where the hose joins the rad. I've tightened the hose jubilee clip....

Mine hasn't got a directional arrow.
It's just a hose that carries water from the engine to the top of the rad, I'm sure you can put it on any how you like.

perhaps the directional arrow is with reference to the radiator (I.e. in and out of the rad) rather than orientation of the hose.
