Thumbs up :-)

Every time I go out in the 240Z I get a thumbs up  When I'm on a two lane carriageway I have people hang back, go past with passengers looking, at traffic lights people lean across and point and  if I'm behind a car I can see them looking through their rear view mirror then the back seat passengers turn around and eventually say 'Datsun' I had a guy today on a motorbike catch me up, pull alongside when I was at a roundabout, knock on my window and give me  :) I give a polite wave and shy smile, I think that people of my generation haven't seen an S30 for years and the younger generation have never seen one, anyone else get

Drove a Z back over to the workshop yesterday with my wife in our car behind - she said that it was fuunny watching people driving pas her looking in their rear-view mirrors, people of pavements and in gardens bending out to have a better look at what had just passed....

Generally always a positive reaction and ladies just as much as men like 'em !

That's true Sean, I get it from both sexes and all age groups, my son whose nearly 18 loves it, he even takes his mates into the garage to show them, if I say we'll go out in the Z4M he says can we go in the Orange Z instead :)

My car gets all the looks but it also attracts a lot of pillocks who want to race and/or over take in a 30 zone. It's been years since someone over took me in a 30 zone but last year I had it happen 3 times while out in the Z (why???). I also had some silly cow undertake me at high speed (over the limit) while I was zedding and she almost caused an almighty pile up. I was very p155ed off at her I can tell you. But yeah Z's do attract a lot of looks and rightly so  and have you noticed how more people give way to you so they can grab a longer look :D :driving:

its great the way people appreciate them for the rare motors that they are.
when my uncle asked me if i wanted to buy his 260z (now my z) i never really had any interest in it untill he gave me the keys and told me to take it for a drive and it put such a smile on my face i just had to have it.
ive found the attention comes from all types as ive had old people point and wave and younger people flag me down just to ask what it is.
ive also found different motoring clubs like them and have a respect for what the car stands for in motoring history.

I've noticed more that people don't turn out of side roads into your path (which annoys me, especially when no-one's behind me - clear road) to get a good look.....almost better than royalty :) !:D

I always get thumbs of approval from bikers. Last year on the motorway I was surrounded by a group on trikes and choppers who all slowed down to take a look. They seem to have respect for the Jap cars.

I while back now but on the way home from a track-day near Paris, there wasa 911 in front and group of bikers(10ish) really, and I mean really harassed the driver - I hung back a bit.

He turned into a service area (probably to change undies) and it was my turn - they opened up like the Red Sea and thumbed up - I almost cried (with relief ?). About 5ks down the road they came blasting past just to remind me who was boss:D

I find it impossible to go out in mine without people giving me the thumbs up. On the motorway recently I had some guy hanging out of the passenger window and taking video on his mobile phone as they drove past. I can hardly recall ever going to the petrol station to fill up without someone wandering over to look at the car or pass comment. A while back I was on the forecourt alongside a new Ferrari. Some guy came out of the kiosk and said "lovely car mate". I saw the Ferrari guy turn then realise the bloke was talking to me! The cars we drive are so rarely seen and so beautiful that, in many people's eyes, they are far more desirable than some £100,000 super car yet cost nothing like that to own. You could spend a fortune on a new Porsche or an Aston and then quite easily see two or three others while you were out in it. I have only ever seen one other 240/260Z on the road in all the time I have been out in mine and I have been all over the country in it.

Once had an older lady drive up beside me late at night (into the right only lane) and signal me to roll down the window. She said she used to own a 260Z and wished she never got rid of it :)

I had similar experience up in Cheshire the other day Rob when driving the tangerine dream 280Z. Stopped at a petrol station in Knutsford and this guy shouted over ' that's ******* gorgeous ' just as one of those stunning WAGs walked past the car to pay in the kiosk. She turned around only for said admirer to say ' sorry love, not you, the car '

Excellent Cheshire-style anecdote!

One of the coolest reactions I had was heading to Halfords at Stanley Green, off the A34 one time. I'd pulled into the retail park and headed to a parking space well away from anyone else (as always!) and a young Asian guy comes dashing over, followed by a couple of friends. They'd seen me drive past on the way in and couldn't believe their eyes. He was into the JDM stuff and S30 Fairlady Zs were his favourite car. He was in a state of disbelief that a real Japanese market one just drove right past him! :D We chatted for a while and he took some pics.

Modern supercars are ten a penny in Cheshire, so the Z often gets much more striking reactions from people.

Was working on mine on my driveway on Saturday morning when a guy and his missus walked past. I heard him say "I always wanted one of those Ford Capris". Made my blood boil:mad:

Anyways, took it out for a run yesterday and lost count of the amount of people that gave thumbs up or said "nice car mate!". More than made up for the day before.

Ive had similar experience gone to petrol station filled up and came outside to find 4 people looking round the car two young lads said they had not seen one before ,one of the two older guys said he had always wanted one and the other guy had one and wished he'd never sold it

Also pulled up again in petrol station got out when this lady came running over from her BMW 6 series convertible she was so excited thought she was going to wet herself:lol: she went on to tell me she had one brand new in the 80s and to this day its still her favourite car and she hadn't seen one for years she said it had made her weekend :D

Mines only a 280x as well so it must be good when they see your cars ;)

Derrick - the 280ZX is still a real classic, looks different to anything modern that is on the road and still has a real place in the hearts of people who originally owned them, like the lady you described. Plus, yours is a truly stunning example in a colour that would stop anyone in their tracks even if they did not know what it was!

On a trip down to La Mans classic in 2010, stopping at the petrol stations that were full of gorgeous Ferrari's, lambo's and other exotica, the zed always got equal if not more attention. Even from the drivers of the exotica.

They are such a universally loved car.

All the time... I've had people come over to chat in petrol stations, get mates to take photos of them next to the Z when it's parked, people rubbernecking in cars and passengers taking photos, had people tooting and giving thumbs up, and even a bunch of kids on a coach all go to the back when I was following it - what started as one kid looking out of the back of the coach turned into a sea of faces pressed to the glass... so much so I thought the coach might tip over backwards!
An old Z is a GREAT looking car and getting some publicity too these days, but even I get surprised sometimes at the enthusiasm it can bring on!
I just wish I could say it was my good looks getting all the attention! :)

Absolutely.... I've noticed the same. I think people see yet another Ferrari or Aston or Porsche and just lose interest, but when they see an S30 their eyes go out on stalks!
