The "Ultimate" Sacrifice

The mystery buyer of that mega parts collection ? :D ;)

Andy very kindly "loaned" me the use of his unit for a few days to complete a job that came from 5miles away in Melton. It saved shifting a 300Zx + bits all the way back to Nottingham.
When I left the workshop it was all swept clean ready for the new arrival.
Thats all.:D

Well, the spaceframe arrived on Friday, delivered by Ultima to my workshop.

When they offloaded it, they lent me a workshop dolly and duly placed the spaceframe on top - much to my amazement they then proceeded to "spray clean" and wipe down the whole spaceframe, tube by tube because they said they wanted me to be pleased with my new chassis and wanted me to enjoy the whole build. 10/10 I say !

Some of the pictures look like the metal is "bumpy" - it is spots of rain water, before Mr Ultima cleaned the chassis down.

Chassis on the dolly :

All bracketry already welded in place :

Captive nuts welded to the spaceframe where needed :

All in all very impressed. Also bought the pedal kit while I was at it.

Is it me or does the frame look quite small. Doesn't look like you'd squeeze a bloke in there! That'd be why they go like stink though I suppose. Enough car to just about house a guy / gal and a sweet tuned bad mo-fo snarling in the back. Love it. Those waterjet cut billets look the part too. The Americans are really 'down' with the whole starting from a block and cutting rather than forging them. I love it. Really old school and super-tough too. This car is gonna kick ass.

What sort of power output are you looking at then? If you're gonna be using it often then around the 400 mark in a car that weighs sod all would probably make it more 'liveable' with. The temptation to push it to 11 would be too much for me. Can't wait to see where you go with it.

Thanks Jakko,

Yes the car is "snug" but liveable for a bloke my size, 6' 2 1/2" and nearly 17 stone. I was surprised when I got in, enough side to side room (as much as the Z i think) but the headroom is quite limited. Will be tight with a helmet on for track days.

A lot of the guys have gone for "top trumps" numbers on their engines which is great for down the pub but sometimes too much of a handful for the road. A bog standard "redneck proof" LS2 engine generates 405BHP and about the same torque.

With 405 BHP and a car weighing approximately 950 Kilos (bit more if you use an ironn block) then the ratios of the Porsche G50/50 gearbox will supposedly deliver 0-60 in 3.3 and 180 MPH give or take a bit.

There is one car that will do 0 -200 - 0 again in 19 seconds and will hit 211MPH in a standing mile but to be honest, that sort of power is way too much for liveable everyday use. If I up the power at all it will be with a pair of heads (probably trick flow) and a cam (probably comp) which should see about 550BHP. That will be MORE than enough.

Gone quite again here ..........meanwhile my Z will be back on the road again soon after it's gearbox and tyre change (no awards won by the pit crew for record breaking). I have the use of a little black box that'll give me my 0-60 time, cornering G-force (I think) and top speed should I ever find another straight long enough.
Here, it's blue sky, sunshine and - 5 °c so the tyres'll take some time to warm up.
