Sean, the article don't say much, it only tells that there is two versions as a aftermarked spoiler, the best thing is that now i know the original Nissan is of no use.
Ive got a answer from Les Cannady, remember he is deep in to Z's and roadsters and also races them.
Here is the answer (copy and pasted from my inbox on CZCC)

On another board we are talking BRE spook, the discussion is about whenever the original spook is with duct or not, or why it is changed, i know you make a spook from the original mold and believe you are the right to answer this.
Please let me know.

The original spoiler that Peter Brock had made all had ducts for brake cooling and mine all have the ducts for brakes and i have no idea where the ones without ducts may have come from. original racing spoilers actually had the top half of the duct covered so you could attach a hose to go to the brakes. Over the years the top half of the duct was removed and the spoiler could be used for street use either way. The real BRE spoilers also were a little deeper and had enough materiel to go back under the radiator support and have 3 additional screws for strength. I hope that helps with your discussion and i have been following it sometimes. Take care and enjoy!!!

This must be the answer to the duct question, but each to his own, some like the mother some the daughter, that's just how it is, a matter of taste.
