Smoking (1st July 2007)

As billing is an open air event I would expect it not to be smoke free. AFAIK the ban only applies to enclosed spaces, and areas within a specific distance of public building entrances.

I, however, will be smoking at Billing, and if I have to do it in my own car, with the windows shut, (it is my own space afterall so bugger them :) ) then so be it.

I will be a non smoker at Billing so dont blow your horrible smoke on me.....:D Only kidding. I might not smoke a cigarette but that dont mean I wont smoke? a pipe.

Yipppeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Smoking ban at least, good riddance to disgusting smells, sore eye's, bad throats and burnt holes in my best silk tops.

As you can see I'm over the moon, smoking is a digusting, dirty habit that costs money and kills people do it in your own home and when you find you have lung cancer don't expect the Doc to sort you out, don't inflict it on those who want clean lungs, and don't wish to smell like an ashtray:D

Na would be better if the non smakers sodded off elsewhere or stayed at home.
Lol like it Grolls

Bloody do gooders!

Just protecting my own.....reflect on this; my imposition on you isn't going to damage your health and stink your clothes, burn your eyes etc.....

What does a smoker do when he leaves the baccy shop ? He rips of the cellophane wrapper and throws it away on the street, followed by the tin foil cover ocer the ciggies, followed by a match, the buts and finally the empty packet !

Such a selfish habit !

Maybe in France they do? What about people that eat chocolate, ooh bad people... What does a chocolate eater do when he leaves the chocolate shop ? He rips of the cellophane wrapper and throws it away on the street, followed by the tin foil cover over the chocolate, and finally the empty wrapper!

And vomits chocolate over everyone he passes ? I think not - nice try !

Look, we're all doing our best to f*ck the environment with our cars so why don't we ALL shut up, evolve nicely like good little lab rabbits and smile at the advancement of summer...... the days are getting shorter now.......:(

So now I'm wholly responsable for global warming ?

My ol' smoker'll do yours in a straight line AND in corners mate !

Is a tent at Billing a confined space or is it treated as your own home?

What happens if you smoke in someone elses tent?:conf2:

I dont mind giving up smoking Sean but there is no way I am giving up Shellfish mate. Sorry..........:D

If there going to enforce a no smoking policy for health and enviromental issues then all motor vehicles should have cats.

Those who fart alot should have butt blugs fitted.
Those that eat garlic should wear a plastic gan on their heads:devil:
Those who suffer from smelly feet should have them cut off.

Next.

Let's just go outside and shoot ourselves to save us from all danger everywhere...

Exactly Russ, its a liberty, come to think of it, my human rights are breached by not allowing me to kill myself slowly.

Yes i'm going, myself and Tulip(Trish) are flying over, the ferry would cost us about 400euro each:( so no cars with us i'm afraid but I don't mind, It sounds like it's gonna be one great party...see you soon:)

Ps Vin, don't mention it on 300zx.co.uk, Trish wants to keep it a secret and surprise all you headcases for some reason...!

Hey guys just thought id wade in with a bit of maths for the argument. If you smoke 20 a day for forty years you will spend about £73k at todays prices, of which about £35-40k will go to the government as tax. This will keep you for about 10 days in an NHS hospital being treated for lung cancer. If you add in all the other associated health problems and second hand smoke and all the rest of it a smoker does not pay for his own care in taxes.

But if you smoked 60 a day for 50 years and died after being knocked off your bike by a bus because cars have been banned then the NHS is in profit! On that note i feel a familiar craving.... 1 down, 59 to go!

I have noticed one benefit of not having lit up in years - I don't have to clean the inside of the windscreen so often! But I do disagree with the smoking ban. Anti-smokers should consider this:
  • Smokers pay £9.4 billion tax & VAT which is approx 2p in the £ income tax
  • NHS spends £1.5 billion treating smoking-related diseases so the nation is still better off by £8 billion (or 1.75p in the £ income tax)
And that's not taking into account
  • smokers die younger - so the state saves on pensions
  • smokers die quicker - so don't clog up NHS beds as long
  • 3 of the top 5 tobacco companies are based in UK so that's another huge slug of tax income
  • they employ 3,000 people in the UK so that's jobs and more tax
  • Lotus F1 from Team Gold Leaf http://www.gpracing.net192.com/teams/33.cfm from Hill and Clark to Senna
  • and, of course JPS on both Loti and Nortons
Although there is a mass of epidemiological evidence (statistical and therefore capable of different interpretations) linking smoking with many diseases, there is as yet no provable causal link.

Of course there should be choice for non-smokers and if public buildings wish to have a ban, then that's perfectly fine - as long as smokers, too, have a choice. In Australia, pubs can have a smoking room so both camps are catered for.

Besides all that, it's none of the state's business if smokers choose to take an additional risk in life. Now that the safety nazis have won this one, what's next? No NHS treatment for fat gits? Or people who drive fast cars? Or play rugby?

But chin up - there are still three places Brits can spark up without fear: Isle of Man, Alderney and Sark. All have cheap booze too! Since Sark has no cars, Alderney has an island-wide 30mph limit and the IoM is the last place where "derestricted" speed limit means exactly what it says AND has the TT...
