Shuddering at low speeds and engine cuts out in reverse

hi guys,

hope you’re all enjoying the sun ☀️

i’ve had an issue come up - i have a ‘77 280Z, been driving the Z every weekend over the past couple of months and have had no issues until yesterday.

cranks and starts fine, idling is ok, every gear engages perfectly fine when moving, however when i put the car in reverse gear, the engine cuts and the voltmeter illuminates red on the ‘CHG’ bulb.

i can start it back up with reverse gear engaged beforehand and that seems to work fine in order for me to reverse.

also at very low speeds in 1st gear, the Z is shuddering/jerking until i put a lot more throttle on

any thoughts as to what i should check?

thanks!
