I see its time to wind up the country bumpkins (sorry, rural dwellers) who BT choose to ignore for Broadband whilst spending more on their TV advertising than it would cost to convert my exchange!

Don't want to get too serious here but feel I must defend BT ( seeing as they pay my wages ). I too am frustrated at not being able to get the Broadband product yet, but they are well aware of this and are working on other 'stop-gap' solutions for the likes of us country bumkins. The advertising campaign worked and the 'take-up' has been excellent thereby ensuring shareholder value and funds for investment in the network. A couple of years ago we were critised for too much debt, to have provided Broadband to everyone irrespective of demand would have taken us back there!

Rob: Its just a shame that's all, I think to convert an exchange is something like £300k to £500k, my town only has 90 people registered so

100 peeps x £25/month say x 12months in a year = £30k which seems lots of money but it will take ten years to see a return, and what will adsl be then? Old hat no doubt.

ANYWAY Z's will still be around then and what will we have? 400Z? New naming scheme not on engine size? 1kwZ maybe <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Anyway on thread again it's a shame to see all those burnt cars...

Good news for us country bumkins, as I hinted at, BT have come up with a stop-gap product for Broadband called MidBand. It's basically like ISDN i.e. 2 channels over the normal telephone line. When receiving large files it switches to 128k but if the phone is needed it cuts back to 64k and allows it to be used at the same time as the PC. BT are not pushing this because they want people to buy BroadBand but if there is no option they will sell it to you!!

Try: http://www.bt.com/btcom_r....pe=LINK

If you opt for one of BT's 'Together ' Charging packages it's £75 for the line termination box and then a figure per month which includes internet accesss, line rental and an allocation of free hours.

What rubbish though

"new BT Midband customers will receive line rental and either 150 hours per month at 64k, or the equivalent 75 hours at 128k"

My family pay £27 a month rental, £15 isp and £8 line rental I think so £50 a month for reliable 64k from bt, rip off I think you'll agree, and now they want £35 for just 150 hours, or 75 hours of 128k, that's still not competitive imo.

BT do try and I appreciate it can't be easy but those without broadband even with them offering midband are still hard up with regard to net access <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Might suit some though I'm sure.
