Roads to drive before you die...

Any without a speed camera, sleeping policeman, man-made chicanes etc etc, they really wind me up. I don't need to be told how fast to drive I use my training, judgment, experience and general responsible attitude.

Rant over, good thread - the Peak District is fantastic, many roads are sweeping, undulating and open (see through the bends). The road from the Cat and Fiddle pub to Macclesfield used to be a favourite.
I Iike the A6024 going up between Glossop & Holmfirth hopefully when no cars get in the way (luckily the sheep stay out of the way)& it's local, I also like it at night with the reflective posts at both sides lit up.
According to Motor Cycle News the Cat & fiddle road and the
A5012 from Cromford to Ivonbrook Quarry,
A612 from Baslow to Owler Bar,
A57 Snake Pass from Glossop,
B5035 from Ashbourne to Wicksworth,
A515 Ashbourne to Alsop-en-le-Dale,
A6 Matlock Bath,
A5004 Buxton to Fernilee,
are going to have average speed cameras put up facing rearwards to keep a check on bikes, what's to stop them checking cars as well.

The thing is, on remote roads where police cars don't tend to patrol, speed cameras have a nasty knack of becoming 'faulty' and a picture of a black screen because someone has painted the lens isn't admissible as evidence (I DON"T CONDONE THE SABOTAGE OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. JUST AN OBSERVATION)

We should be driving from Calais (France) to Florence (Italy) this summer – anyone know of any good roads along the way?

Average speed camera's are usually high up so are a bit out of the way,(I can tell you are not a driver):D

fly to genoa in italy hire the fastest thing you can then drive up the alps to bardovecchia cup of tea then drive the mountain passes back to monte carlo . fantastic

The road from a certain pub to my in-laws place in South Wales. It's only a couple of miles but in the early hours, after a lock-in, with my bro-in-law's mate driving... it's hairy enough.

I don't know about the Stelvio. It looks wonderful but can you actually get any speed going or is it just zoom, brake, zoom, brake, zoom, brake etc?

Any one know of any good roads around the manchester rochdale area? mainly for my bike so would be nice if it was smooth and camera less. a good run for the Z is also required

I know that no one on the site will know the place ,,,,but,,, Ottawa Valley, Ontario , Canada. Township called Laurentian Hills, Road name ; Bronson. Some world class dirt road stretching about 18 kms from Algonquin Park to "civilization" Extremely challenging,,and if memory serves some corners would nearly force you to hand your beer to your passenger and yell " hold on and watch this" :D:D  ( is ok,,im all growd up now and dont do that stuff no more )

Ahhh, that reminds me of the Tour the Z we drove way back in ’04. For over a week we did this. Have to dig up some photo’s.

I really enjoyed the driving in the Yorkshire Dales last week, it's well worth a visit. No need to go mad just enjoy the twists and turns of Birkdale B6270 or the road that runs parallel to the Settle Carlisle Railway B6259.

There was hardly any traffic, no speed cameras/sleeping policemen/man-made chicanes etc. Just like old times.

One near me is regularly being burnt out. Old tyre hooped over the camera filled with some petrol. One match later .....
