Excellent work ...from the first cache of pictures, I was really surprised that you were going to restore such a nice looking car. Now after some more revealing and bare metal shots, it makes sense. It will be worth it in the long run. I like your engine bay, any more pictures as seeing a clean stock L series set up is now a rarity !

looks like you have timed it just right to restore it,not too much much work and some looks to be in excellent condition for it age.

So took the dash out the other weekend and for anyone wishing to see what it looks like on the rear of your 240 dash here goes.

If anyone wants anything in particular taking while I am doing this, I will try to accommodate.

Its not a UK spec car and would be interested to know its source. Looks though like a very positive one (unlike some of the **** which has been posted as potential resto). Good luck an look forward to seeing progress pics.

MaximG must say looks very clean and dust free behind your dash, even the control storks look new along with the various multi plugs still in white

Nice work

Making good progress, wish I had taken more pictures like you! Looking forward to seeing more

Oh well Stockdale must be shy, not willing to stick his neck out any further . I do possible understand his reasoning though, there are certain things in the pictures that might look out of place on a uk car.

Tell you what. If my 240 looked like that when I bought it..I would have been a happy camper. I took just over 21/2 years in the rebuild. Its done look beautiful just need the weather to drive it.
Carry on the great work.
:)

My 240z didn't look like that when I bought it. I have had my Z 10 years next March and in that time have done a considerable amount of work to it. However apart from a bit of tarting to the outside the main body hasn't been touched.

When purchased the initial emphasis was like anyone else to get it on the road and use it. Some electrical work was involved but mostly mechanical.
In 2006 and 2008 the floors were replaced along with in 2008 a complete engine rebuild. The engine bay was given a make over and new fuel lines were put in.

From the start I was aware through a HPI check that the car had been written off some time in the 90s and while working on the car it became obvious that things weren't right at the front end. During the 2008 work my welder alerted me to the fact that the drivers sill had had a bar welded along it and deep filled with filler to make up an apparent gap to the door. We worked out that the door haven't been repaired properly in the past and would not be worth fixing. So to have another door put on would require the rectification of the previously badged work.
Step forward to 2013 the doors both side are badly blow at the bottom and need replacing. So a decision needs to be made, I know about the sill the misaligned front end and the decay around the rear lights. To have all this sorted would result in a respary, so after a bit of sole searching a full rebuild of the body was in order. What pulled things into place was a conversation with an old z club member and friend who introduced me to a local chap who is going to undertake the work, the final piece in the puzzle.

I have in the last few weeks made some purchases that will make this build all the more interesting so watch this space as it were.

So please don't think that I purchased the car in the condition it is now a lot of time and money has been spent over the years to get it where it is, this final piece will I hope deliver a very complete car and something quite special.

Mike

Keep up the momentum and excellent photos... you may not realize it but the photos you post will help many others for years down the road... I wish I had your electrical photos 2 years ago.
