Thanks Mr B, hopefully I can get the win at Mallory. It would be nice after the problems I've had this season.

dosn't Paul Stafford run an standard road sports where as you and Charles run modified roadsports
would the Standard road sports be a cheaper option for anyone wanting to start HSCC racing

Racer,

Haven't done any racing (yet). Have spent the last three years doing a hell of a lot of trackdays on a very limited budget - lots of 3am starts, mechanical woes, lots of cable ties, gungum, gaffa tape and camping in fields. Highlight(?) probably being blowing the headgasket coming back from Spa and traipsing across sodden fields trying to speak French to farmers in a desperate attempt to find water :)

Was intending to do the MR2 challenge this year but unfortunately house purchase got in the way (priorities all wrong there!). Still had my Mk1 but it was far too modified, although there is still an option to do that series next year if I don't find something suitable for '70s Roadsports - a shed of a Mk1 MR2 is significantly cheaper to buy/run than a Z, as much as I love them...

Alan,
I run an 89 aw11 myself as a road car so I understand the appeal. Surley a good 260z would be a cheaper shell for a race car. Ok you would have a slight weight penelty, but the extra 200cc allowed should more than make up for that. My Z must be one of the cheaper cars to race in the series , and certainley the most reliable.

A 260Z is definitely on the list, although currently so is an AE86 (although obviously not in '70s Roadsports....

See, this is the problem when we come to the end of the season - lots of cars for sale and far too much choice :)

AE86, yummy! (never driven one though)

I have gone for the race marshall route to get my motorsport hit as I doubt I'll be able to afford much any time soon, hope to get qualified so I can go watch these Zs winning :)

AE86 is great fun, but doesn't really deserve its reputation in standard form. Need to run it stiff at the rear and with skinny/hard rear tyres to turn it into an Inital D drift monster. Very tunable car, but going for silly money - several standard low milers sold for over £7k on eBay recently. Madness seeing as that would get you an extremely nice modified Z. I might be a Toyota fan but I know what I'd rather have in the drive...

"A car that is prepared properly and driven well will always beat an over-engineered badly driven car."

That's why Dave's doing my car and why he's looking after the two race cars you've mentioned earlier !

He was always the man and since Tim has left these shores, Dave is the undisputed master !

I also know how much Paul paid Tim for his 'standard' engine many moons ago and the figure of 10000 pounds isn't far off !

For anybody thinking of taking up club racing you would not go far wrong by choosing a 240 260 or 280z and entering the hscc road sport championship, reasons being stable regulations and abilitys being equal a front running car. Having retired from motor racing at the end of last season each time I see the 240z out front in the hscc it awakens the build myself a car cells that I keep resisting as I have to finish Seans car first.

Just having a break after spending the weekend at mallory, Its great that the Zs are winning in HSCC and it wont be long before we have the outright win in the Historic Rally Championship
with Dominic.

I'm not too modest to say that the 240Zs were brilliant at Mallory with Matt Bannister and Charles Barter totally demolishing the opposition in the wet - third place was 50 seconds behind. That's almost a dry lap at Mallory!

Congratulations to Matt on his first win for ages - well deserved. And if anyone thought Charles wasn't trying hard enough in second place, he was always in sight and set fastest lap! An F1 style last minute tyre change (not eight seconds, more like eight minutes) gave Matt the advantage this time.

Great car prep from DJR, thanks to Jet Wheel & Tyre for tyre sponsorship, Hayward & Scott for exhaust work and a pat on the back for me, flying the MJP flag at all rounds this year.

Get out to Silverstone on the 16th October for the final round - if you've not been this year, you have no idea how much Z based excitement you've missed.
