Oil filter connections

might be a tad wide of the mark but you could always try PIRTEK they do all sorts of oil/hydrollic hoses and fittings.

Good call Grolls, found my local Pirtek and after 10mins they had found a union! I saw it fitted. Pipes will be made up next week. I asked what the thread spec was and all I got was "it's a Japanese BSP", which is a bit of a contradiction (BSP = British Standard Pipe). Anyway if anyone is interested the part number is 891-20-6.

Thanks again everyone.

Fitted the oil cooler this week and started 'her' up today. No leaks! However I was concerned at first because the oil pressure when cold was about 60psi (I'm sure I used to get about 75/80 before).

My first thought was that I had air trapped in the cooler system but then I remembered the two valves in my 'new' filter/cooler take-off adapter. One of these I can dismantle complete with its spring, could this be a pressure relief valve set at 60psi? Or are these just to bypass the filter/cooler if either get blocked? Or maybe one is some sort of thermostatic valve! I'm now completely confused with this bit of kit and its complex casting and oilways.

Thinking about it, no matter what happens in the filter/cooler system the ulimate pressure will be controlled by the standard valve in the block (where the filter fits). Any experts out there on Datsun oil pressures and systems?

What I would say is that the oil pressure is definitly better when hot and everthing appears to be working. Oil is splashing all around the cam and the cooler gets hot (too hot to hold) so its not airlocked I assume.

Perhaps I just think about these things too much!

Rob,

Glad you got it all sorted in the end.. Thanks for the information, learnt loads form your post, never heard of Pirtek until now - good to know and I found their website (THANKS GROLLS :)).

The part no. you gave is that the size of nut you need to go onto your sandwhich plate and start the length of pipe off ?

Did we establish if a 10 row cooler was big enough for a 2.8?

Cheers,

George
