Weren't cars starting HS30-11XXX post 1972?
Russ,
Nissan Shatai's records for 'HS30' VIN prefixed cars produced in the 1972 calendar year show:

HS30-10437 through HS30-12045 ( 1,608 units )

then ( after the jump up to six-digits ):

HS30-100001 through HS30-100800 ( 799 units ).

Giving a grand total of 2,407 units.

Mike, as far as kerb heights are concerned I have problems with my family car, a Mk5 Golf. It is a bottom of the range 1.4 but still the front valance is really low (5"), how stupid is that?

I think those Samuri front spoilers are quite effective at reducing lift, they also give a distinctive look.

Just checked the vin no' again, afraid it is not too distinctive as to the spacing, will need to look at the plate, but she is tucked up in her polly bag for a bit (Sad or what!!)
certainly the V5 shows the no as HS 3011704 and not HS30 ---.
Will check it as soon as!
Thanks Mike

Hi Housequake, yup she's not bad bit of rust along the edge of the O/S/F wheel arch & a wee bit around the chrome strip on the roof .the main problem is the glass roof leaks !! tried new seals but still need a brolly inside, makes it a bit awkward driving!! Any ideas where to get replacement seals or replace whole unit with a webasto one! ?

That number '30' after the 'HS' is not the first part of your body serial number. Your car is an 'S30' series Z manufactured by Nissan Motor Co. of Japan, and more specifically built as an RHD export market 'Datsun 240Z' for the UK market. The 'H' prefix to the 'S30' model designation signifies the L24 engine.

Forget what it says on the V5, as the DVLA have been making this kind of mistake for years. For example, I have ( according to the V5 for one of my cars ) a very rare 1970 "Fairlady ZX Turbo"  .....

If you are really interested in ascertaining a more accurate build date for your car ( perhaps not? ) then there is plenty of evidence on the car that you can cross-reference to get you within at least a month or two of 'birth'. The components of the car are covered in dates.......

Best cure for an S30-series Z that has been afflicted with a vile "sunroof" is a complete roof panel transplant. My first Z had that problem and a new roof panel cured the leaks, creaks and unsightly looks in one fell swoop.

:)

I confirm that a genuine (metal) Samuri front spoiler does significantly reduce lift and is (imho) still one of the better looking front spoilers on a 240Z !
My green one is still alive and will be back on the roads over here (in the hands of someone else) in the near-ish future !
